I have a Xeon E5640 that I'm about to by a motherboard for (Supermicro X8ST3-F), but I'm going to need a CPU cooler for it. This will be going in a Norco 4220 4U case.

Anyone have any recommendations? The Hyper 212+ supports LGA1366 but does list anything about supporting the Xeon processors. Dynatron and Thermaltake seem to be the only brands listing Westmere as a supported processor (at least by my weak google-fu).

Do I need a Xeon-specific cooler, or will pretty much any LGA1366 cooler handle it? I'm not going to be overclocking the CPU as it will be running either Server 2008 R2 w/ Hyper-V, or VSphere Hypervisor to run some VMs at home.

there's really no cpu specific coolers, it's all socket based and in most cases coolers will support many sockets if not be able to support any with slight modding.

pick a price or performance range and take a look at what's available.

The megahalems works with the stock 1366 backplate. Not sure whether it or the hyper 212 would be able to fit in a 4U case, though...they are both very tall.
