Those are Alphas. Most of the posts are threaded, but you are mostly right, that is the heatsink mounting system:


I bet those nuts could be found at the corner hardware store if you lost one.

I look over at my massive Noctua D14, the GPU cooler supported with a post, the big fan blowing on the FusionIO, and I think to myself: Cooling used to be so simple!
