i currently have a e6850 stock, i was wondering whether or not it will be worth it to overclock it or order a q6600? I would get a 45nm, but i have evga 680i so that prevents me.
 
Overclocking is free, so by all means, overclock the thing. Q6600 can be had for $200 these days, and is great if you use software that utilizes all four cores like video encoding. But for gaming and general use, most programs don't even use two cores so your E6850 will be faster.
 
OC the e6850.
Keep the cash saved for a worthy upgrade. (nehalem/bloomfield)
 
thanks guys ill probably just O.C. the cpu and spend the cash on a gtx 260

no reason to side-grade when you can definitely push the 6850 a bit higher with little trouble. Unless you are doing video encoding you wont see a difference.
