If i bought a geforce 8800gts, it would bottleneck my pentium d 2.8GHz but would i be able to play any game at 1400x900 with everything, everything on?

Your cpu is the bottleneck not the 8800. You still should be able to run it at that resolution no prob.

i know the cpu is the bottleneck but should i get the card?
any game at 1400x900

What are you running currently?

I would think it can handle that res but it will not be optimal with that cpu.

Can you overclock it at all ?

You're more than OK considering this is a Pentium D. Heck, a Pentium 4 at those speeds probably wouldn't really be a problem.

well i can reach 3.2 GHz with air on a generic branded cooler

You'd be fine, but don't expect huge ass framerates on games that require the CPU more (Battlefield series, others like it.)

Fine meaning worth the investment.
