Cpt. Picard is no more

Gurney Halleck: "It's time for your daily lesson."
Paul: "Not today Gurney, I'm not in the mood."
Gurney Halleck: "Moods are for cattle and loveplay, not for fighting!"
Dune, 1984

RIP you absolute legend.

Farewell Captain!...I didn't realize he had Alzheimer's...they showed him as Prof X in the trailers for the new Avengers: Doomsday movie and he looked a bit weak but I thought it was for the role...he was still able to memorize his lines

Rest in peace.

It's a sad day, but if he was suffering from Alzheimer's, it's better this way for him.
As someone who dealt with a father with Alzheimers I agree 100%, there's the sadness of it, but there's also the emotional and financial strain which are very closely tied, now I'm sure he had the resources to have good care, for everyone else its basically where all health insurance just tells you "this ain't medical, you deal with it yourself "

I saw him interviewed about a year or two ago and he still looked fantastic and incredibly robust for a man of 83 or 84. Dementia is absolutely horrendous.

He's been looking rough to me ever since the show Picard and Disney dragging him out to play Prof X again TBH - so for roughly the past 6 years or so

He was also great in the short lived Blunt Talk, an underrated if slightly non pc gem. Seems like he was actively working up till a few months ago, a quick candle going out kind of end, apropos for his legacy.

He looks rough in Star Trek Picard. I think this got worse with each season. Additionally, (I think it was Johnathan Frakes) who said he only did half days of shooting on Picard Season 3. If you notice, they did most of his scenes in that show with him sitting down. You could also tell by the way his voice sounded that he was weak and not doing well. That was a few years ago mind you.

Never thought the first cap to go would be him and not shatner. Also didn't realize the guy was in his upper 80s

"You've no need for your weapons with me, Gurney Halleck."
"Paul? Paul?"
"Don't you trust your own eyes?"
"They said you were dead. You young pup! You young pup!"

When you get a Shakespearean thespian to deliver those lines, you get legend. Even used those same lines in the 2023 version.

There is a reason some were calling Picard season one Star Trek Old Folks Home.

RIP Mr. Pickard aka Capt Gentleman Johnny.

Shatner is an anomaly in the Matrix, the man doesn't seem to age a day and is still a sharp as a rock and deep thinker.
