A U.S. court has ruled that products from Dell and Microsoft do not infringe on patents held by Alcatel-Lucent, the second such set back this week for the company. The judge is allowing a separate patent trial against Dell go forward though.

The court also ruled in a summary judgment that Microsoft Corp. would not be liable for indirect infringement of the patent. Alcatel-Lucent spokeswoman Joan Campion said that, while Dell won on the PDA issue, the Judge still plans go a head with a patent trial related to Dell's tablet computers, which use a stylus to control computer functions.

The summary judgment related to Dell's Axim line of personal digital assistant products and an Alcatel-Lucent patent for the use of a stylus to control notebook computers.

Wtf? Since when did they hold a patent for this? What a bunch of greedy fucks. I was all thinking this was for the MP3 issue again. Guess not. Wow.

well yeah...i never heard they had sued over that though. sigh

Just remember, these systems are in place to #2 Protect Your Ideas and Inventions #1 Make a Profit when someone steals / uses your ideas without your permission.

And yes, I did separate numbers 1 and 2 out of order to show the irony of priority that these two things hold vs. why they were designed.
