Hey guys, I haven't folded in a long time (7+ years) and I figured I might as well toss at least my server back into it... not a real big computer forum guy anymore but I chose HardOCP to throw my points to. Now the questions...

My dev box is a P4 2.8c with 2gb ram running linux headless - this CPU has hyperthreading, I've been running two instances, should I just be running one?

My main computer is a 2010 Macbook Pro, how do I set F@H to just run when the laptop is on AC power?

Thanks. I know I've got no real power going, but it's better than nothing. :)

Hi, welcome back!

For a vintage Northwood P4 you could test it out and see what produces more, two clients and HT on or one client and HT off. Nowadays, the difference is probably so small (or even detrimental) that I think it would be best to just simplify the setup and keep one client while disabling HT in the BIOS. I used to have two P4s circa '04 that were running 2 clients each and HT was enabled. However, Stanford has repeatedly stated that they prefer quicker WU completion over sheer volume of results with slower turnarounds. Since the difference with today's work units is probably negligible, I think you're best served with one client.

Hopefully, someone will be here later to help you out with your Mac. Best of luck. :)

It's been a little while since I had F@H running on my MBP but the option to pause the client while on battery power is standard for the SMP client.

The option should be under System Preferences>Other>Folding@Home once you get it installed. Here's a guide for installing: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/MacSMPGuide

I tested but it keeps running on battery; there is no option in the system prefs for it either.

If your running the tray client. its in there. right click, configure, advanced. 3/4 of the way down. the icon will stay active but will be paused. if your running console client you will have to select yes on advanced options when setting it up then you will see the option for pause when running battery
