So I got and installed a new Raptor in my system and it is fast. I'd say it was a good upgrade over my HD that was 5+ years old.

Anyway, after freeing up my IDE channels I realized both my cdroms are set to slave and I don't really want to take my system apart to move the jumper. My question is does it make a difference speedwise if they are set to slave or master?

Also, I will be using my old HD for data storage. I still have a PCI IDE controller in my system and was wondering if it would be better to hook the HD up to it seperately instead of putting both a cdrom and HD on one IDE channel from the mainboard.
 
Cdrom speed: not a problem. They'll only hit 24 MB/s or so max for a 16x dvd drive.

Both cdroms on one channel and the drive on the other, or cdroms seperate and the drive on pci, are both good configurations. Don't mix-and-match cdrom and hard drive, though.
