I have an X800 Pro. It performs great in the video stress test and preety well in game. But I keep hearing about how nvidia cards, 6800GT and 6800 Ultra, are just stomping on the X800 Pro. Ever since HL2 was announced, Valve kept saying "ATI is the perferred graphic card for HL2." But now it seems like Nvidia is taking that title. Should i sell my x800 Pro and get a 6800 Ultra or 6800 GT, or will Valve/ATI release patches/drivers that will elminate this problem? Tell me whatcha think. Thanks.

As long as it performs up to your standards (whatever they may be) I say keep it. Just because one card wins in certian benchmarks, much less by 1-10 FPS, doesn't mean it's stomped, tramped, or whatever. Just stick with what works. If the cards works, great. It's a good card.
 
ok. im thinking of getting the 3.4 ghz P4 as well. My processor my be a little slow (3.0ghz P4). Ive got an Abit IC7-MAX3 and the highest i can put in is the 3.4, that with a gig of ram should yeld some performance increases.
 
CS:S seems to be more cpu bound with any over a 9800 so an improvement in that area would probably yield the biggest gains i think. CS:S also likes cards with 256mb of ram or higher (but you already have that covered).
 
yeah it's no big deal.... and what resolution are you playing at? if it's anything below 1600x1200 then forget it... because @ 1280x1024 the fps i get is like 7 away from 1024x768.... unless your running 1600x1200 or higher then your x800pro fine and besides even if you bump the res to 1600x1200.. the gain between each cards aren't that much

When was HL2 released? I wasn't aware of that, I thought only CSS was out... HL2 will be totally different, it uses a lot of different graphical enhancements such as HDR which im sure is optimized for ATI cards, and various other enhancements that CSS doesnt have. PATIENCE.
 
They use the same engine...how will it be different? I hope it performs different. Maybe Valve and ATI will announce that Half-Life 2 will support 3Dc and HDR and other graphical enhancements. But I doubt they will, with only 19 days left, it's too last minute to make such statements, but we can hope...sigh. Half-Life 2 comes out November 16th, mark your calenders..

dont bother w/ the new processor, it wont affect fps at all.
 
gosh why don't u just overclock the dang thing.... it's only 400mhz overclock for a pentium 4 and it shouldn't be a problem at all... u can even get it to 3.6 or above with stock cooling.. its not hard

but yeah it won't affect fps at all.. well for me a lilttee.. i got my athlon 64 overclocked 200mhz more from stock and it net me 2 fps..

lol, he said announced, not released. I suggest you learn to read.
 
Remember when doom3 came out and nvidias cards were the fastest because the game aparentely was designed for them?
Well not anymore, ive seen benchmarks with ATI and NVIDIA cards on par!
diferences of 1 or 2 fps, my advice is stick with the card!!!
the main issue is the drivers, in dx the performance is great, in ogl not so good but getting better, nvidia is the opposite but is getting better too.
but as far as im concerned ATI rules!!! but that is my oppinion.

I'd love to see a link. D3 from what I know is still Nvidia dominated.

But to the original poster sell the Pro if you can make a full return on it. If you're going to be taking a $100 hit it's not really worth it.
