I run CS:S at 1680x1050, settings at max. I have XFX 6800GS 256MB. Every once and a while my computer will lock up for a about a minute while I am playing CS. When it starts responding again, the graphics go haywire. Artifacts everywhere.. I can't even see my crosshair. Then I'll exit CS and my desktop will have the same problem. I can remedy this by going into Sleep mode. When I come back I get a dialog saying my card has insufficient power. The PCI-E power connector is plugged in tightly.

I have a Thermaltake TR2 430W, rails as follows:
12.20v
3.34v
That's all that is listed in SpeedFan, except CPU vCore

A64 3200+ Venice
ASUS A8N-VM CSM (I want to beat it with a hammer)
XFX 6800GS 256

Any ideas?

download ati tool and tell us what your max temp is after playing.

sounds liek overheating i dont think that card can play css at max on 1680x1050

Runs it like cake.

I'll check tommorrow... too late for CS.

Actually, I probably won't play tomorrow. I need to read my summer reading for High School Honor's Engrish, school starts thursday. Pft.

It's possible that your power supply has taken a dump. At a certain point it could be failing and something trips.

I'd first lean towards a dying video card. Sounds like RAM going bad in high end applications, that then carry over to your OS.

Your psu is going bad. First off you dont have enough amps on the 12v rail in the first place to safely run that card. You may have damaged the card too.

My video cards would do exactly the same thing in stalker. The game would play fine for about 30 seconds, The Pc would freeze, the graphics would go crazy, go fine again and the fps would drop to like 10. Turned out that one of my video cards had died.
