Could this be my PSU?

Hey,

After spending a long time troubleshooting it's come down to:

- Memory
- Power supply

Heres the problem:

My machine, after getting it to boot and updating bios to be able to recognize my drive, is now randomly crashing, sometimes blue screen, sometimes programs just crash, now immediately I thought memory, but, i spent a long time running full tests using memtest86 and it came out fine. So, i tried lowering the load on my PSU.

Previous Load:

- 3x Case Can
- 1x ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (AIW)
- 1x Neon Light
- 1x Cold Cathod
- DVD Burner
- 2x HDD

New Load:

- 1x Case can
- 1x ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (AIW)
- 1x HDD

The PSU is an Enermax 300W.

Yet, it still seems to be doing it. Could it be that the PSU is not upto supporting the higher voltage of P4? It used to work fine in my AMD box, but, with the introduction of my MAX3 and P4 2.6C, I havn't been able to get the machine stable.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks.

Use Task Manager (control-alt-delete) and shut down applications (other than what is needed for Windows) one at a time, trying to recreate the problem each time. That will show you which program is causing the problem, if it isn't Windows itself.

If the problem persists after checking all other apps, run some Windows diagnostics software, like Norton WinDoctor or the like, and I'll bet it shows some ActiveX problems.

It doesn't sound like a PSU problem to me, but if you have access to another PSU, it won't hurt to do a temp swap to test.

have you run a dig on your HDD, if it is a old one (or cheap one that got banged around) the arm might be sticking and giving BSOD's

It's not a software problem, this still occurs after many formats.

It's either memory or PSU.

All parts worked fine in the system before i upgrade :(

I just can't figure out why the memory comes up clean :/

i say memory. i've seen many cases just like yours and it always turns out to be the memory

Ok, my DDR2700 specs are shown below.

Should it not be running faster along with my other specs and could this be the cause of my random crashes, BSOD's and reboots?

(P4, 2.6C, Abit IC7 MAX3)

Any ideas
