Could Blizzard pull off a WoW console version?

if wow could exist on console... it would be a crippled version gameplay wise

so why bother?

anybody in this thread who says WOW couldn't be played on the 360 console hasn't even played the 360 console. I own a 360 and a decent computer and have played WOW for a month or so..........

Gears of War, Ace Combat 6, Kameo, etc etc etc --- all look WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY better than WOW.

Check out the new Ace Combat 6...the lines of reality and graphics start blurring at this point.

The 360 could easily play WOW --- there's no question.

and while you may not have a mouse and keyboard for every tom and harry playing they may not need it. Every player on xbox live has voice chat and if you could voice chat when you get within a certain range of someone that would suffice for communication.

You don't get it at all do you? As I said WoW is taking up 12 gigs on my drive, WoW NEEDS RAM, and lots of it to run smoothly... otherwise the load times from the HD-DVD would be terrible as they are like 1000 times slower than an HDD

It has nothing at all to do with graphical capabilities.

There's more to a game than just graphics. Consoles are limited in other areas. You won't see console games that have maps as big as what can be had with a PC. You also won't see as many players in a console game, as you can have in a PC game.

Maybe the PS3. MS mandates that retail Xbox360 games not require storing data on a harddrive to function since it's not a standard component, and it also mandates that developers not use keyboard/mouse as gameplay input devices.

PS3 could pull it off, but it's not at all easy to develop for so that means higher time and development costs. And the only reason Blizzard would want to extend the game to include console gamers is to expand the market they can sell to. The PS3 install base is relatively tiny.

The next generation of consoles may be able to do it after they accumulate a large enough install base(maybe 3-4 years for them to release, and another 2 or so years to sell the hardware). That's pretty far off.

There's no reason why "a" console couldn't field an MMO, it just requires the proper circumstances. And they aren't in place for the current generation to get WoW.

That is sad. Lag is a term exclusively pertinent to issues of network connectivity.

Yes, lag is usually in reference to network connectivity, but in this case, entering large cities like Shatt, the "lag" is not caused by network connection, it's caused by the sudden increase in the # of players and added complexity of the city. It's a graphical lag (sudden decrease in FPS0, not a network lag in that instance.

I disagree, what I notice in heavily populated areas in WoW is indeed network lag. For example, the most noticeable symptom is being able to see everyones shadows on the ground but not being able to see the people themselves. That happens because the data for those people's characters has not yet been sent to your machine by the server.

The framerate will dip in certain places so it is a bit of both, but the most noticeable things are due to network throughput, or the lack thereof.
