Simple question, is the cosmos S worth the extra money? If it is or isn't, please tell. :)
 
Ok. Basically the reason why I would consider the Cosmos S is because it looks Alot better than the Normal Cosmos. I love the black sides, and the iluminated I/O Panel, but just don't know if its worth the extra $70. Hmm.

Another thing, Does the Cosmos 1000 come with any illuminated fans?

I'm just not too big of a fan of the stacker.


And with the Cosmos S being smaller, it probably doesn't matter much considering that its a full tower anyways.

cosmos s is so much better than the the original. the giant side fan helps blow tons of air onto the mobo; a real benefit for any nvidia board owners.
 
Well couldn't I just buy a 300mm fan and put in on the side of the Cosmos 1000?
 
I'm not really impressed with the Cosmos S case.

They had a good thing started with the original Cosmos 1000. I have one and enjoy it. Though it isn't perfect. But the purpose was to provide decent cooling in a very quiet case. They did great with the quiet. They needed to fix a few things with the cooling.

But instead of finishing what they started, they just gutted out the entire original Cosmos interior and replaced it with a Stacker interior. Gone are the very easy and convenient hard drive racks. The sound dampening insulation. And other small touches that made the original Cosmos.

Now it's just a another Stacker model with a Cosmos exterior. Personally I think the Stacker exterior looks better. *shrug*

I was really hoping Cooler Master was going to fix the original issues with the Cosmos while keeping it quiet. Replacing the steel frame with aluminum. It doesn't need a giant fan, but really the hard drive fan mountable below the hard drives for more direct cooling of the drives. Really just those two things, weight and poor hard drive cooling, would have made a major improvement to the case without sacrificing sound dampening.

if you feel comfortable cutting a hole into the side panel of the 1000 case then by all means. for me, the s case has the added benefit of the top three fan ports where you can mount three fans one next to the other as opposed to the bit of space you had between the two fan ports of the 1000 case. i can mount a tri radiator in the top of the s without having to drill holes or modify sheet metal. by the way, where are you going to get a 30cm fan?

And for the 250mm fan, I wouldn't need to cut a hole, I just could mount in on the inside, right?
 
Well if it didn't have a hole, couldn't it just function as a way to get more airflow?

There are hard drive bays in there. But they are not the nice individua,l removable, side mounted hard drive racks like the Cosmos 1000.

And yeah, you would need a hole for the fan. The idea of the fan is to move cooler air in and push hotter air out. Might also damage the fan if you mount it on the door without on holes.

Though you could also just replace the slow moving 800 RPM fans that come with the Cosmos 1000 with some 1200 or 1600 RPM fans. And move the floor mounted fan above the hard drive. This fan you move above the hard drive is really the important one to get at least running at 1200 RPM to help with the hard drive cooling.

I agree with the above. The origial Cosmos was an elegant silent case. They just completely gutted the interior to the point where the looks are nice, but not nearly as quiet.
 
I have the Cosmos S and it is a nice case, but as others have mentioned, the side fan does narrow the interior quite a bit. I had to remove it in order to use it with my Xigmatek HDT-S1283, and you'd need to do the same with any tall heatsink.
 
I know it adds ESA and side fan..
but is it as quiet as 1000?
did they remove insulation from the side panels?
