I have a Corsair VX550 which as 2 cables with 3 4 pin molar connections that have large tabs, the issue is the the tabs make it somewhat problematic for cable management.

I'm wondering if it would be safe to remove the 4 pins from the molar and wrap each end individually in electrical tape? Since there is no way I need to use all 6 molars. I can then reinsert them if I do end up needing them.

Molar? Are we talking about PSUs or teeth here? I really don't understand your question at all.

I think I have teeth on the mind, I keep thinking molex equals molar for some reason. Or it might be because I haven't slept very well this week.

Well, if you're asking whether or not it's safe to take the pins out of their housings and use them, I would say no. There's a good chance they could come loose and fall down somewhere, potentially causing a short.

Sorry to clarify, I meant removing the pins and then completely wrapping each pin in electrical tape and not using them. This makes it easier to hide/manage the wires, because the molex plugs (almost typed molar again here...) on the VX550 have these large tabs (to help with the grip when removing them I guess), making it harder to press them flush against the back of the motherboard tray/HD racks.

Why not just break off the tabs? I think that would be preferable compared to taking off the connectors.

just push the tabs toward the wires with a little force they come unhooked then bend them backwards and they snap off. or just unhook them and push them flat and use a little electrical take to hold them that way if you dont want to break them off.

Good ideas. The reason I thought about the method I listed though was it seemed easier to "undo" if I do indeed need those 4 pins as they were in the future. Since you'd just unwrap the tape and reinsert them.

I don't see anything wrong with what you want to do. You're properly protecting the plugs, the only thing you have to make sure of is that you reinsert the correct plugs into the correct slots. As I recall, there are two black wires, so you might want to make some way of differentiating them, like this black goes next to the red wire, and taping them together (the lines, not the plugs of course), and same with the black next to the yellow? wire.
