Building a new system and have a new, unopened Corsair HX 620w PS lying around. Wondering if it will be enough. Here are specs:

Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro
Processor: Intel 2500k
Vid Card: Radeon 6970 or Nvidia 580
HD: 500 GB WD (or 1TB)
Case: Antec 900

What do you think? Will the old school HX 620 run it?

More than enough. Overclock everything to the max and it'll still be fine.

I had a hx520w running an q8400, 1HD, 1 optical and a 560ti just fine. I had gigabyte techs tell me 600w minimum... which was silly since the problem with mobo happened with a 750w too. Anyway, the same 520w is now running a phenom II 955 @ stock, ati 5850, 1HD/optical with no problems.

Thats what you get for buying a good PSU back in the day.. my 520 still runs strong in a buddies machine.

im running the 620hx with an i7 920 oc to 4.2, 580gtx and like 6 hard drives. you'll be fine. However u will need to use the adapters that come with the video card for the power.

Why use the adapters? The hx series has pcie aux power cords for video cards included.

Though, Ive just had my 520w just die on me yesterday. Wondering if that was part of it. xfx 5850 video card.

Because the HX620 has 2 PCI-E connections, and two 5850's require 4.

He may be talking about the original version of the HX620, which came with two 6-pin PCI-E connectors. Later revisions came with 6+2 connectors instead.

The OP isn't using two 5850s, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

That would be me confusing this thread with another one.

Got it narrowed down to a 6970 or a 580. All other parts are here. Christ I hate choosing a vid card.
