Corsair H60 Question

So on Friday I was at my local Fry's and saw that they'd just gotten the Corsair H60 in (hadn't even been stocked on the shelf yet). I picked one up and bought it for my system rebuild. Last night I went to install it, and now have a question before I continue (hopefully at least one other person has bought and installed one, otherwise I may have to wait awhile) :(.

The installation of the backplate involves adjusting these washer nuts along each of four arms until the nut and retainer go into the mounting holes on the motherboard. You then screw in four double-sided standoff screws into these retaining washers, and that forms the mount that the water block/pump will connect to.

I followed the instructions exactly on installing the backplate, but I've noticed there's some slack/wiggle room for it, i.e. no matter how tightened the standoff screws are, the backplate can still wiggle some/be *slightly* extended away from the back of the motherboard. Not very much, but still a small amount. From the front side of the motherboard, the double ended screws themselves wiggle some, although I don't get the feeling they'll be falling out.

It has me a little worried though, since I'm concerned that once I install the pump/waterblock, it wont be flush with the socket and instead move around some.

Anyone have any experiences yet with installing an H60?
 
No experience here but once you put the block on and tighten the set screws make sure everything is snug before you fire it up.

If it still feels loose IMO there is something wrong with it.

Hope it works out. Please post your findings with cooling if it works out.
 
I went ahead and installed it this morning. With the cooler/pump mounted and screwed in, it's snug, so I'm no longer concerned about the backplate.

However, idle temperatures are high... I'm using a Silverstone FT03 case, and it has a 120mm fan blowng almost directly onto the pump assembly. Corsair also says to have the fan pull air in from the outside, while I reversed that and have it blowing out (along with a second fan on the radiator). However, even then tests have shown it to not have much of a negative cooling impact.

The early H60 reviews on a 2600K show it idling at around 26-27 C (with a 22 C ambient temperature), while mine is currently idling at 46 C at 25 C ambient... so something seems up. Besides having the fans blowing out of the case, everything else was installed per Corsair's instructions. I know that the TIM will take some time to set, but it still seems as if a 20 C difference is rather drastic...

Any thoughts?
 
Reconfigure fan direction to corsairs recommendations. Seems way out of specs for temps. Make sure the block is getting a good even snug fit along with TP evenly applied.

* Tried re-arranging fans to suggested way. No temperature difference.
* Tried swapping out to different fans. No temperature difference.
* Removed cooling block/pump. Cleaned off OEM TIM. Put on AS 5. No temperature different.

I'm thinking it's either an issue with the motherboard's temperature reporting, or the H60 is bad. Probably going to take the H60 back tomorrow and replace it with an H70.
 
I know some time has passed since you first posted but I just got an H60 and noticed exactly the same thing with slack in the mounting, you would think the stand-offs would snug down securly with the backplate. Wow I found this totally unacceptable and just poor design. Also mine came with one of the stand-off threads damaged so I couldn't use it. Man I had high hopes for the new mounting system of the H60 but I'm taking this back !
 
The mounting system on the h60 is intended to be that way - once you have the cooler installed it will be snug
 
Installed mine over the weekend. It was loose as well. If nothing else, the installation pamphlet is woefully inadequate, particularly if this is your first experience with their Hxx line of coolers.

When I attached the pump, it tightened right up. I tightened by hand. I don't think I want to crank on it any more than I already have.

BIOS (EUFI, whatever they call it) reports a temperature of 41C with a push/pull configuration. That is for my 2600K at stock speed. Ambient is about 22C. Real Temp reports about 29-30C (without calibration). HWMonitor from CPUID reports approximately the same. I'm going to try to run some Prime95 tests this evening.

The case is a Lian Li full tower. I can fit my cat in the top half with the motherboard. There is a lot of room in there! The GPU is a 570.

Question for anyone that knows: Does the orientation of the pump matter? The way my case is designed, the mobo is installed 'upside down.' The pump is also upside down.
