Okay, so I'm running my i7 920 D0 at 3.8 Ghz on 1.275 Volts, and everything seems stable. I have two side fans, one fan on my H50 (intake), and an exhaust fan, so my cooling setup is fine. I'm in a MicroATX case with a lot of room (CM 341). OCCT, however, seems to quit after five minutes, and says my CPU is "too hot". I am getting 50C idle on my CPU.

Does everything seem okay with this picture? I mounted my H50 twice to be sure, and everything seems really secure. I did notice, however, that the screws on the H50 retention bracket don't stop screwing in to the back pins - is that normal? Even with that caveat, however, the block seems to be very securely mounted.

What's wrong here?
 
I removed the side fans, and installed two fans on the radiator (as exhaust). I had to bump the voltage up to 1.3 (wasn't stable, darn D0). Now my idle is 45C @ 3.8 Ghz. Is that normal?
 
The screws should bottom out or stop turning.. The pump clicks into the mount. Mine idles around 41C-46C at 3.8GHz with 1.3 Volts.

Under load I rarely hit 70 degrees. You need to monitor your temps more closely with HWMonitor or RealTemp..
 
Hmm, it seems like the pump is completely tightened in, I tried pushing down on it to see if that would change temperatures, and it didn't (like it normally would with a terribly mounted plate).

Also, has anyone noticed that the radiator scratches incredibly easily? I've hardly moved it, and even a few light bumps have taken a decent amount of paint off. I just need to settle my OCD, haha.

It looks like the bracket is completely tightened, but no bottoming out.
 
One thing to make sure of is that your pump isn't plugged into a motherboard fan header that's being voltage controlled based on temps. You want it running at 100% all the time. That could explain the poor performance.
 
What RPM is the pump suppose to run at? It says mine is running at 1420 RPM. Also, any confirmation on the scratching. ;)

Edit: It seems that my CPU Header on the Rampage Gene II, is only letting the fan run at 1100 RPM with all fan monitoring disabled - how do I get the fan to run faster? Or, is that about what it is rated at?

Mine is running at about 1400rpm.

I was really careful installing both of mine. No scratches
 
Also, my ambient is usually pretty high (California). It's morning right now, and my idle is 38C - 43C (4.0Ghz on 1.325V). Maybe that has something to do with it?

That's a pretty normal idle for that. Quite good, actually for 4 GHz and 1.325V.

Normal RPMs:
Fan - 1600RPM +/- 10%
Pump - 1400RPM +/- 10%



If your fan is at 1100 RPM it's not getting fully power for some reason.
 
Yeah, something funky was going on. I redid the wiring in my case, and switched my first radiator exhaust to the Corsair fan, and switched my "silent" 120MM to the rear exhaust. Now I'm getting roughly full speed on both fans. I'm pretty happy with the setup. I was able (due to the radiator and double fan size) fit two side 80MM fans (couldn't fit 120MM). It runs relatively quietly, and stays pretty darn cool. I just wish both the case and Corsair H50 used better paint (or that I wasn't obsessive about silly things). I'm still having problems with OCCT, but Prime95 is fine. OCCT has always seemed a bit extreme for my tastes.
