Hello! I've figured out that I have the same problems that others are having with the Corsair AX1200 making weird noises. Some have described the noises as sounding like a horde of angry wasps.

On Corsair's message board they suggest disabling a couple of CPU power saving functions in the BIOS. The functions are:

C1E and EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology)

I have disabled both of these and it works in MOST cases. I do still hear the buzzing wasps when I play games or use Furmark or any graphics stressing utilities. I will be RMAing this to hopefully get one that doesn't chirp and buzz.

My question is.... Is it a big deal to turn off C1E and EIST? I have no idea what they do and I don't want to be doing something harmful to the computer. Is it fine to turn these off?

Thanks for any advice!

Those are power-saving states, just use Google. They determine whether you can put your machine in sleep state and whether your CPU can lower the multiplier in idle state or something.

Either way, that's ridiculous. Corsair has been touting this thing forever and it seems to be basically defective.

If your PSU is making noise under load, it is defective. Send it back to Corsair and they should replace it with a properly-functioning unit.
