Corsair 800d Question, Possibility?

probably fit better but you are going to have to jury rig something to hold it up there. the guy who's thread that is taken from says he has noctua fans on the radiator because he's "all about the quiet" but then adds 2x basically useless 80mm fans to the case.

That's nothing really, will not help at all. I rather let natural air flow pass through that area.

The CPU temps are fine, I want better GPU temps.

The fans are useful though. Extreme negative pressure.

Damn that pc looks sweet, thanks for the link, never thought of putting another ccfl in the bottom compartment, but I will now.

Actually it is proven that adding fans there as an exhaust helps with airflow, lowering temps 2-5 degrees

If you don't have the top 3 fans as an exhaust, I can see that being possible, but I don't see that kind of difference when you've already got those top fans.

I'll stick a few up there this week during testing to see if it affects ambient temps, but my ambient temps in the case and outside the case are rarely more than 5C different in the lab unless I set up a 3-way SLI rig and run Vantage or Furmark or something for hours.

I would love to hear your results of this test. I will probably try it myself anyway, as I already have an idea for mounting this without modifying it. If it doesn't work out ill put it over my memory.

Well, with the 3 top fans as exhaust, it looks to me as if that vent up top is less than worthless. Those 3 fans will be pulling air from the top back of the case which wouldn't help cooling the computer one bit. Those 2 80mm fans may not be a big help, but if they are exhaust they will at least help air from flowing in and up. Just plugging up that top back vent might do just as good a job though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but thats my take on it. ;) I'm sure you have done a lot of testing on this case, so if you have an explanation on how that vent helps I would love to hear it.

Initially that top back vent wasn't there. We tested a case by drilling holes (with a drill bit on one of the first prototypes - engineering was most displeased) and found that temps were a couple degrees better with perforations there, so we opened that area up. In reality it won't do a whole lot if you have top fans, but if you have no top fans at all it seems to help a bit.

My personal best testing has had the rear 140mm and the rearmost top 120mm fan as exhausts with the two front top120mm fans as intakes as well as the bottom intake. There's very little recirculation (unless you're under a desk with no ventilation) and we get great cooling numbers from the GPU and CPU area.

I may give that a shot myself to see if it helps with GPU temps. Though I have to get a couple more dust filters. I had to drill holes in the 140mm one I got for the rear intake on the H50 so the H50 screw heads would not push it away from the case. It worked out well though. All the case fan intake holes are covered. I taped the vents shut, blasted dust was creeping in through them like no tomorrow.

Doesn't seem like a good idea since it will be competing with the fans on the top of the case, directly to the right of the two 80mm fans.

I had the same thought and blocked off this area with a magnetic mat. I have 3 fans as exhaust in the top and did not want to "short circuit" the air flow. My temperatures with this case are as good as any I have had with other cases. I have a H5O blowing in and have replaced the bottom fan with the new Noctua 140 mm fan. The fans are controlled by a Scythe Server fan controller so they are at low speeds most of the time and automatically increase the speed as the temps rise.
