Hi Guys,

I am having issues with my Corsair CX430. When my HTPC is turned off the PSU starts making a weird high pitch squealing noise. I am starting to trouble shoot the issue. I need to rule out the extension cable from the back of the case to the PSU. Any other thoughts on what I should try? My build is below.

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition
GIGABYTE GA-880GM-UD2H
2 GB OCZ DDR3
ASUS EAH5450 1GB
SAMSUNG Black Blu-ray
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB

Probably just a minor defect with the PSU. If it really bothers you, RMA it.

My Corsair 430 just failed as well. Outputs unstable 12v under load.

Hmm, troubling. Did you pick this up during the $13 sale a while back? Mine's been powering a boxen for the last 3 months without issue, hope it doesn't go....

Friend of mine is having the same problem with a CX500 in a system I just built for her. Needless to say I'm somewhat regretting going with a CX (just due to it being a Corsair) as opposed to getting one of the cheaper Antecs (ideally a Neo Eco or at worst, a BP) instead. Love my other Corsairs (TX, VX and HX) but the CX is 0 for 1 with me.

I just ordered one of these, I hope I didn't just waste my money :/

It's not really a waste of money per se, it's still a good psu, arguably better than most cheap psus out there. Seems like some of them have whining coils, and that can happen to any psu be it a sub-$50 one or a top of the line $200+ 1kw+ one. It's more likely with cheaper ones, but it can still happen to any of them.

If you get one with the whine and it bothers you, just RMA it or exchange it where you bought it.

It probably won't bother me, I actually don't mind having a noisy computer, as long as it isn't irritating. I suppose it's a benefit of having damaged hearing? lol
