Card is an OEM (IIRC) sapphire 9800 pro, year and a half old or so. Its been fine, but hada occasional bouts of corruption, like what Im experiencing now. The screen displays fine if connected to a laptop, and occurs on both DVI and analog output. Screen is ok for a couple seconds following every boot, but breaks down shortly thereafter. Im going to try a known good geforce3 ti, BUT im going to have to drop my parents computer down for a couple hours to do it. Along with screwing around with drivers and all. My knowledge is failing, I cant think of any cause beyond heat or dying silicone.

To see what Im talking about... http://www.ilkhan.com/misc/100_0106.MOV. That shows the corruption. Typing this is the first time its been flashing when the screen isn't changing, which tells me its getting worse.

Videocard is dead, right? :(

yeah just test if its dead by putting a different card in your machine, maybe even try putting the 9800 in a different computer and see if it has the same problem.

I unistalled the drivers and its taken a lot longer to corrupt, but its still starting to do it now. Guess its time to pull the G3 from parents comp and try it in here.

I had a 9800pro that did the same... more than likely it is just dieing like mine did. I sent mine back to ATI (still under warranty) and bought a 6800gt... hehe. Sold the 9800pro RMA to a friend when it got here.

I loved my 9800pro! Ide say my 9800pro was my first "good" video card ever... Ive always bought around the middle of the line, or bottom.. TNT2, Voodoo4, Geforce2 PRO, Radeon 9000 PRO... then I got this high end piece of awesome that totally blew me away. Im so buying another ATI card when this 6800GT is slowing down for me. I would have gotten an X800 PRO but I couldnt find any at a decent price when I was shopping around...

update:
still haven't gotten the nVid card in, but while the drivers were gona I could run the 800x600 without corruption. Bumped it to 1280x1024 (largest possible) and it still was ok.
Had occasional flickers, but nothing like what it was.
Tried to update to newest drivers but got blank screen soon as I logged in. :(
I'll try the geforce.
