Corrupted mp3s... :(

Does anyone know how to fix corrupted mp3s?

I've got 3 or 4 albums of mp3s that were initially encoded at 320kbps/48KHz CBR two or three years ago. They've worked fine and have stayed on my mp3 drive the whole time, until last weekend.

When I open them in winamp5, they play very slowly - the winamp display shows the sample rate as 44KHz rather than 48. They don't even open in Windows Media Player.

Anyway, I'll probably end up ripping them again, as I still have the original CDs, but i'm still trying to figure out what happened??

Is Alt.preset Extreme still the best generally accepted encoding technique? I've been out of the loop for a bit :p

not sure why they would be doing that.. did you run scandisk?
Try playing them on another computer to make sure it's not your system causing the problem.

Yes, alt-preset-extreme is still the best method.
