Corrupt resolutions when connecting HDMI display

I have an HDMI link from my laptop connecting to my Samsung TV. When the cable is connected to my laptop and the TV is turned off, my laptop is out of its native resolution. It is normally 1280x800, but when the TV is turned off it reverts to 1024x768 automatically. I am using Nvidia control panel to manage multiple displays (set as clone to duplicate the desktop on both screens) and am unable to bring it back to 1280x800 when the TV is off. When the TV is turned on however, the resolution is 1280x800 and everything works fine... Any suggestions on how to keep it at 1280x800 when the TV is off???

Have you tried setting the laptop to single display? You should be able to do that in a few quick keystrokes on the laptop.

Yep it'll work if I do that. I'd just rather I didn't have to do anything as far as changing the settings. It seems weird that it would put my laptop display in a weird resolution changing the aspect ratio when the TV is off, but look fine when its on...Dunno what would cause that.
