corrupt installation files

'K so I have been having an issue installing the T:V beta for like a week now and it seems to have spread to other programs that I am trying to install... I have tried a number of things to no avail and I can't figure out what is wrong...

I am currently running scan disk...

Other things I have tried...

Downloading and installing in safe mode.

Downloading from another multiple PCs and either transferring the installation files over a network or burning copies of the files to CD.

I have also tried reformatting my hard drive reinstalling XP with SP2

I have googled the topic as well and found out a lot of things can cause this... net traffic, having full temp folders, using download accelerators, internet security settings, scratches on a CD... and so on.

This is really a hard issue to pinpoint and now I am having problems installing a game I was able to install previously with out any issues... It seems some programs will install while others won't. I always get an error about a file being corrupt... It could be a .exe or a CAB file.

If it is a hardware issue that's fine everything is under warranty but I need to know what part of my hardware is fucked up.

Any idea's?

I ran Memtest and it seems that my memory is faulty... I guess I have to RMA them to mushkin... Sad thing is I wasn't even overclocking it.

Before you RMA your Mushkin (very good ram, IMHO), you could check to make sure the SPD data (ram timing and voltage) was read correctly, and set the BIOS per Mushkin's specs. More than once I've had to do this manually so this is probably good to check.

Also, see if your motherboard's BIOS has an update available. Some MoBo's show Memtest86+ errors when there are none. Intel chipset MoBo's with early BIOS's are well known for this.

Thanks for the reply BBS... I was halfway joking. Everything was set to default. I don't see the point in overclocking since I was happy with the performance of my machine.

Since my post I have tested both sticks separately and both came up with errors. I actually bought an extended warranty with Fry's when I bought my parts so I "should be able to take'em back.

I have been thinking about exchanging the system board as well... The board is OK it's just that the onboard NIC always takes a while to "warm up" until it sees my network connection. I figured I could live with it but now that I am having issues I figured it may be a good idea to return it just in case the memory fault lies there as well. I figured I would kill 2 birds with one stone.

What do you think? Return the board too or just try to get new RAM?
 
....that's a decent system board. Unless you think it's defective, I'd flash it with the latest BIOS and call it good. A buddy of mine runs that board and he thinks highly of it.

Right on...

Well I am going see if I can return the Mushkin RAM to Fry's and give Kingston a try since ASUS has tested their RAM. I figured since I paid for the Fry's warranty I should put it to use... I just hope they don't give me any shit about having Ramsinks on the RAM.
 
I had the issue before I installed SP2... Which is why I ended up installing it in the first place.

Anyway, Fry's honored Mushkins lifetime warranty and allowed me to return the RAM for store credit. I unded up getting some Kingston HyperX and so far so good. :cool:
