Is there a correct way to enable CF. I have tried everything and all i can get is bsods, blank screens, and crashes.

these are some of the scenarios ive been through

1 card installed - install drivers - add second card - no option to enable cfx

1 card installed - install drivers - add second card - cant boot

1 card installed -install drivers - add seconds card -load windows and no drivers are present - attempt to install with both cards and dongle - bsod

Somehow I got everything to work one time and went to enable cfx and when I did the screen blanked and wouldnt load windows until is safe mode deleted everything ati

xfx 5870s both reference, single bridge

I think you should try a driver sweep. I'm not sure if you had Nvidia cards in there at some point, so check for that too.

Then load one card, install drivers, shutdown, load second card and see if it works. ;)

I'm still using 10.4a drivers, and it works fine. I originally was running one card before I got the second. All i did was throw it in, and it worked.
 
ive been using driver sweeper to no avail.
I finally got to enable crossfire without the screen going blank but its still fucked!
both cards in no dongle. install drivers. reboot and add dongle, crossfire option shows up, click it screen does its thing. and then uninstalls my drivers? upon reboot it said no ati board or drivers . So i guess ill attempt to install them again? which will continue this stupid cycle

update. so I reinstalled over them, prompted me to reboot, and after rebooting I get the same message, no ati board or driver. this is bullshit
 
im so over it. finally got crossfire to enable but if anything my performance got worse. 17k gpu score in vantage, 35 fps in bad company 2. I dont know what the hell is wrong but its getting so annoying
 
Somethings clearly messed up.

Normally, you would install the first card, then install the 2nd card, and on the next boot-up you would get a popup regarding crossfire and you just click the "Go" button and you're good to go.

17k vantage score is about what I would expect from a single card.
 
I dont know what to do expect a fresh install of windows. any other help would be greatly appreciated. I havent even got to play black ops yet!!!!!!!!
 
fresh install seemed to do it. One card in system, install drivers, restart with 2nd card and the ati message popped up hit go and were good. now i need to get some games back on here to test
 
Uninstall all old drivers.

Put both cards in the slots they're to be used in, make sure you connect all power connectors and a single crossfire bridge, make sure to make any changes in BIOS necessary, your motherboard might need telling which PCI-E slots to use at which speed, most don't though. Boot into windows, install the latest ATI drivers and then reboot.

It should detect and enable crossfire automatically, if you get crashes or BSODs then you might have faulty hardware somewhere along the line, usually the best test here is to test each card installed individually and see if they work in 3D games under load without issue. if both cards are working fine it might be worth running a driver cleaner program in safe mode to clean out old drivers.
 
^^ always done it like that too. Install both cards, the connector/bridge then drivers.

If I have one card in my system already, I remove the drivers before adding another. Then I reinstall the drivers after both cards are connected.
 
I have a similar setup to you using 2x 5870 on a 750W psu. I had probs and concluded that 850Watts would be better. On my current setup at 750W I can everything to work except heaven benchmark which shows only gpu 1 working in afterburner. CCC shows that crossfire is linked and on, but that. SO :)
 
The HX750 should be able to handle those cards. Maybe the PSU is failing?
 
I thought maybe it isn't putting out it's rated wattage as trying 8x 8x mode in PCI-Ex showed a 3fps drop, but presented more stability.
 
my psu can surely handle. Im not sure what the problem was but a fresh install seemed to clear it up. and the 850w you linked is no better than the hx-750, they have the same 62a 12v rail. And wattage isnt an issue. my system only draws a few hundred
 
To me it sounds like windows is not picking up the second card.. you should reset the cmos with both cards installed and then reinstall drivers as if windows is picking up the second card then the driver will enable CX it's self..

I run two 5850's with a Vantage GPU Score of 26,000+ and never see bsod on Eyefinity with any of the drivers so it's something your doing wrong or set up wrong..
