hi there. i need some help on deciding which videocard to get
CoreSpeed vs RamSpeed

VideoCard 1: 7300GS
CoreSpeed 550
RamSpeed 810
DDR2

VideoCard 2: 7300LE
CoreSpeed 500
RamSpeed 1250
DDR3

Thanks in Advance

i didnt know 7300's came with DDR3... what is the bandwidth on the cards? is the ddr2 128bit? or are they both 64 bit?

what is the price range...? and reason for buying such a low end card?

Assuming there both pci-e

7300gs :

Manufacturer: nVidia
Series: GeForce 7
GPU: G72
Release Date: 2006-01-18
Interface: PCI-E x16
Core Clock: 550 MHz
Memory Clock: 400 MHz (800 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 6.4 GB/sec
Shader Operations: 2200 Operations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 1100 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 2200 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations: 412.5 MVertices/sec

7300le :

Manufacturer: nVidia
Series: GeForce 7
GPU: G72
Release Date: 2006-03-22
Interface: PCI-E x16
Core Clock: 450 MHz
Memory Clock: 350 MHz (700 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 5.6 GB/sec
Shader Operations: 1800 Operations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 900 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 1800 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations: 337.5 MVertices/sec

By gpu reviews specs the 7300 gs spanks the hell out of the LE

If I had to pick id get a GS also seeing that it has a fan on most models and isnt passve cooled.. Just my .02

thanks for the replies

this specific 7300LE is a new card, which has higher clock/ram speed, and uses ddr3 by a company name Sparkle released 2 months ago that is available in Asia.
they are both in the same price range 54us for LE, 55us for GS (gigabyte 7300gs passive cool).

with the specs i posted 550/810 vs 500/1250 which is better?

reason for a low end card is, im desparate on lowering the noise of my rig on a budget. current 6800gs xXx is quite loud, and the rig is just 1meter away from me on my desk. and i never play graphic intensive games. :p

RAM size...you must have at least a 512MB card to run games in Vista.

i would say the higher ram is better, because you can easily clock the core to 550.

oh okies. thanks 2wiced
i dont have vista yet :p gonna wait for Sp1/2 1st, then ill get the 8600htpc, the cheaper version

I haven't looked up the finer details of the two boards. The G72 moniker is a little vague. It could be that the le also has lesser pipelines / shaders than the gs, which would account for the slower performance in contrast to the gs. Historically, the le has always been the lower cost edition, moreso than the gs.

What?? That's insanity. The OS may be memory-hungry, but the game should be loading the same data onto the card regardless of the OS. Besides, I doubt they'd be making 320MB 8800GTSs if there were any truth to this.

EDIT: Yohji, have you looked into replacing the fan on the 6800GS with something quieter? Not something I know anything about, but a quick search turned up this. Maybe someone else can give you some better advice (either in here or in the overclocking forum).

yes i was going to get a zalman vf900cu, very good vga cooler that can bring temps below 50c, fannoise just 18-25dBa

im just too desperate to silent my rig, with a passive 73gs i can get the psu noise down as well. since it consumes 38-39watts less power (according to x-bits-labs/silentpcreview)
im still using a 4:3 19" monitor so it should be ok for now.

already got the rig properly setup for a passivecool card. Case with 12cm front/rear. chipset cooler with a 7cm fan that brings air to chipset and videocard.

Your wasting your time attaching a VF900 on a low end card.

Why not just buy 7600gt with the money your going to spend on the 7300 and cooler?

:p

You've got a faster gpu than either of what you're looking @, right? You should be ordering the Themalright HR-03.

Who lied to you??? I have several boxes running vista, one of which has a 7600GT with 256MB of vram and plays games just fine, in addition to that, it is hooked up to two monitors. Care to explain how I did that?
