GPU Core_17 - just got one of these today and : "The program can't start because libglib-2.0-0.dll is missing" . I hate when it does that !

Seems to me it deserves to be reported to the developer.

One shouldn't be satisfying DLL dependencies manually...

Would you like a moment alone with V7.x.x?:p

Toconator, Can you please chime into this FF thread. Someone else is having the same issue. I don't think anyone tested on the v6 client.

Edit: Link to this thread posted over there at FF in the beta thread.

Yeah, v6.41 client with -betateam flag set. Seems this was intended for v7 clients and not tested on v6.41 Simply copying the missing dll from a v7 client not successful. I'm removing the beta flag until this is fixed.

what driver version do you have and on what card?

The problem is, it is fixed - upgrade to the v7 client. I doubt you will see a v6 fix for anything related to GPUs (or anything else for that matter.)

Patriot: driver 306.97 (newer causes stuttering in SoaSE) on GTX 550Ti

musky: haven't been able to run v7 as a service on CPU without it wanting to also run as a service on GPU which is not possible with Win Vista/7/8. v7 errors out and hafta run v6 client for GPU anyways.

Should the 17 core restore the Fermi Performance as well as raise the Kepler performance?

At the moment no, All Nvidia GPU's prefer Cuda programs to ones coded with openCL - which is what core 17 uses, Fermi performance is better than Kepler but AMD are now back in the game as they are running very well now. Nv also need to do some work on their drivers

So does that mean the v7 client will auto detect AMD GPUs now such as the 6000 series? I got a friend with a 2500k, 6950 and 6990 setup in his PC that I'm sure I could talk into running FAH.

VERY interesting, wonder what folding will be like on newer more efficient 7xxx series cards? 7770's are power sippers and fairly inexpensive too ...

I'd guess pretty terrible. Especially with the units having QRB (and tuned for GRB), low level cards (like the 7770 with low compute and small memory bus) are at a severe disadvantage.

Memory is currently not used very heavily....

Fire it up and see. GCN is a beast.

Are there any special flags to get Core_17 units? Currently running 7.3.6 on a Windows 7 box with a Radeon 7870 XT. Currently only getting Core_16 units which are only good for 5000 PPD.

NVM...figured it out. :)

I have picked up a few core_17 units since I've seen this thread. Average TPF is 3m50s @ ~ 23.5kppd. One beautiful thing about this core is that usually my GPU is sitting at 68-72C when folding, with this core, Im steady at 54C! (both instances using 100% GPU)

It would be useful if you mentioned what GPU you are talking about.

Sorry about that, I should know by now not to rely on signatures all the time (mobile [h] doesn't show them and that's what I'm on most of the time)

GTX 670 @ 1150 core 3105 mem with the fan at 80% while I'm at work.

And I meant both instances as in the GPU was being used 100% when the comparison temps were taken

Hmmm, getting a bunch of bad WU's or somethings up.

Hmmm, getting a bunch of bad WU's or somethings up.

i am getting the same with 2 6850's

i thought it might be my overclock, turned that down to stock, no dice. also tried with crossfire enabled and disabled, no luck, was hoping to put my ati cards in the mix

edit, doesn't even hit the GPU, it fails while the CPU is loading core_17 into memory... weird.

^^I noticed some weirdness with my GPU activity with general usage, like scrolling through web pages was causing my GPU to spike. I wound up restarting the whole PC and it went back to normal, folding started up just fine.

still not working for me, still failing all WUs after adding the 6850's into the mix and restarting, made sure to flag them both as beta also...

Figured it out, was reading this page here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1367557/core-17-beta-wu

and it made me think, "i wonder what version my drivers are?"

just another reminder to keep your vid drivers up to date people :D i installed 13.1 and now have 2 6850's folding :D:D:D
I've been having issues with the 13.2's, which I read somewhere else are supposed to be better for folding. I don't know if its the drivers , or a bug with the core, but if I pause F@H I'll occasionally get strange behavior. It doesn't really manifest itself tangibly at desktop, but I can see regular jumps to 20-30% GPU usage just using firefox, and the core speed will jump up to full speed at the same time. Normally I just sit at 500mhz and get 1-5% GPU usage. When this starts to happen if I try to game my GPU usage gets pegged at 95+% in game and I get artifacting. This was also what was happening when I was getting all those bad WU errors. Restarting seems to cure it, but this is going to get old really fast as the PC with the 7970 in it is my primary gaming rig, I need to be able to pause F@H reliably on it without it screwing up my WU progress and requiring a restart every time. I guess I'll have to go back to the 13.1's and see if it happens again.

the forum post i linked recommends 13.2's for 7000 series, so that seems weird that you are having so much troubles, wouldn't hurt to go back to 13.1 to see if it helps

Parapeters to get core 17?
client-type
(and here?) ( now it`s advanced )

use "beta" without quotes

bigted - what kind of PPD are you getting on your 6850's individually? I'm trying to fold on my 6870, but it killed my CPU folding... was getting the same PPD on my system with and without GPU, so I decided it wasn't worth the power. My 6870 PPD was ~7000.

I saw this post ^^ and made me realize I probably haven't checked my drivers in a while. Sure enough I'm on 12.1. We'll see if 13.1 makes any difference. Downloading now.

my 6850's are OC'd to 850 on the core and are getting 6k ppd each so 7k sounds about right for a 6870.

after i updated to 13.1 and started using core_17, i see barely any activity on the CPU, pretty much only when it starts up or gets a new WU

Ok cool. I got 13.1 installed and my CPU utilization went from ~25% to ~0.5%. GPU drivers are key it seems.

I'll reevaluate the system PPD after a couple days. Thanks for the help.

Ok so I got the dreaded "missing libglib-2.0.0.dll" error message also. So thinking a had a bad HDD (read old,) I rebuilt the system. And now after completing just 3 WU's on the GPU I have it again! after reading this forum I know that it isn't my system. So here is the big question: What is the fix? Even if it's just a temporary work around. Currently my F@H system is just running on SMP. I new to folding so I need someone to walk me through a solution.

Here are my system specs: Win 7 Pro 64bit, Intel 980X, Asus Rampage II Extreme, GTX470 with 320.18 driver, 6Gig of 1866 RAM, FAH GPU Tracker V2 ver 3.54.

Thanks
HumanHunter

17 is weird. Not only is my system less usable while running it, but my PPD drops significantly.
