i got a 8800GT and my processor is bottlenecking my gpu. i contemplated a whole mobo/cpu/ram upgrade....what do you guys think? i dont really know much about core2duos? which will be good to unbottleneck my 8800GT specs in sig. thanks
EDIT: socket939

i think your current system is good enough to last you till the non-extreme penryns come out early next year.

maybe look into overclocking your current proc a bit as a tide-me-over.

get a 5000+ black edition and overclock to 3.2ghz :D

edit: just noticed 939, go with cd2

total of $393.59 shipped. is this upgrade going to be worth it? and will i be able to o/c this with a enermax liberty 400W? and if i do this ill probably just use my 400gb seagate and take out my 160gb and put that into enclosure

In all honesty, if you're running 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 or above when gaming your CPU isn't bottlenecking anything.

even when i drop to res to 1280x768 i get the same amount of frames in cs:s and TF2 i dont even get fps over 40 which should be. since i was getting around 30s with my 7800gt

how much do you think my current mobo tforce 6100-939, PC3200 1gb x4, and socket 939 x2 4200+ be worth on the for sale thread?

Well, any real upgrade will require a new motherboard and ram. If you overclock even a little bit, go C2D.

E6750 is the processor of choice easily. Don't forget a better HSF if you overclock.

For the ram you could go cheaper than Antok's choice. Right now I am running at 412 FSB 24/7 without problem. You could go with mine, or even get the cheap A data ram that is 35 after rebate. I've got the 60 dollar g skill ram which is actually the second best rated 2x1GB ram on newegg.

As far as a motherboard, just go with what you think suits you best.

Personally, I'd go for the 2x1GB Ballistix - $90 ($50 AR). Performs every bit as well as the Corsair, is cheaper, may overclock better, and a $40 MIR to boot (if you get it great, if not still a good price, I paid ~$110 (~$60)OTD not quite 2 months ago).

As far as CPU, you're more than fine. I went with the e2140, since it was $66 (retail box), just something to play w/ see what I could get out of it o/c wise..Will be going quad soon enough, didn't see the point in spending $100 more when my e2140 kicks ass @ ~2.94 / 1.355v (even w/ the castrated 1MB L2).

ok i changed the ram and i think this looks better

i'd say instead of going with a core2duo, but maybe try to see if you can get a core2quad (Q6600?) into your budget. if you have already have a tuniq tower you're all set. i went from a 3700+ to a E6600, and now i sort of wish i went with a quad instead at the time even though not many apps utilized all cores.

but regardless, either a c2d or c2q would be a good choice. as for the motherboard, i have the same one as you're looking at, and it's stable. overclocked my e6600 to 3.25 on stock voltage without a problem, temps 40 load, 30 idle. it's about 70F in my room.

yea right now quad is out of my price range...and i might do this upgrade if i can get some buyers for my current stuff...but im already tempted to order...haha

Whats all this RAM talk? Doesnt he already have RAM? And the E6750 is nice but you can save some money with an E4xxx processor and OCing. The one in my sig is 129 at the egg.

thanks to everyone...i just ordered teh stuff.thanks again for the help

With the NQ G.Skill sticks, you're only guaranteed a 3.2Ghz OC, if your chip OCs at all. However, you can probably hit around 425 - 450Mhz on them, which would take your E6750 between 3.4 to 3.6Ghz. The Tuniq will keep your CPU VERY cool. I had it on mine before replacing it with the Ultima90. I used the Ballistix and they can reach 533+, and helped take my E6750 to 3.8Ghz. I'll try for 4Ghz when I have more time to play with it. I got the same temps on my Tuniq as I did on my Ultima90 + Panaflo 92mm Hydrowave fan:

E6750 @ 3.8Ghz (1.55v; VID of 1.35v; 475 * 8; DDR2-950):
27°C, 52°C: Tuniq
28°C, 52°C: Ultima90

I've used both the NQ sticks and the Ballistix. My NQ's can reach 450mhz, btw.

ill keep this in mind..once i read up on how to oc when i get my goods
