I just got a nice bonus from my company and am looking into upgrading my memory, motherboard, and processor. I am kind of torn between AMD and Intel, since I have been using AMD processors exclusively since my old Athlon 800 socket A system. My last Intel system was a P3-450.
I have looked some things up and found that there are some problems with certain chipsets, and I wanted to know what is the most current info about these problems. I know there were some hard drive issues with the nVidia i680 chipsets and memory issues with the nVidia 500 series chipsets, but I don't know if either have been resolved.
The parts I have settled on are the E6600 processor, Thermalright Ultra-120 cooler, and 4GB Patriot kit of DDR2-800 memory. The components I am keeping from my old system are: 2X320GB Seagate 7200.10 drives in a RAID0; 2X300GB Seagate 7200.8 drives, separate, as nightly backup drives, switching between them each week for 2 weeks worth of backups; EVGA 8800GTS 320MB video card, may be upgraded to SLi in a year or so; SATA optical drives, one Lite-On the other Asus; LeadTek TV card; Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs (may or may not be used with the replacement MB, depending on the on-board sound and number of usable PCI slots.) My current MB and processor are an Asus A8N-SLi Premium and an Opteron 185 with 2GB of Geil DDR433 memory. Currently overclocked to 2795.
What MB should I go with for this. I prefer Asus boards for quality reasons, but am open to Gigabyte, MSI, and Intel, if necessary. I will not own another Abit board. I would also prefer good overclocking and noise is not an issue.
Since this is not the AMD processor forum, I won't get into the AMD MB I was looking at getting with the 6000+ processor as the alternative. If I don't see a good board I'm comfortable with, I will use the AMD alternative.

edit: sorry, forgot to mention, I'm using an Antec P180B case, so space is not an issue either.
