Core2 DUO TEMP IsSuE!!

From what I understand reading about this, the line of AS5 you put on spreads out right over where the cores are, which I guess is all that's important. Seems a bit odd to me, but since I just got a new HSF in, I may have to try this to see if it works as well as they say. If not, I'll just take the HSF off and go back to spreading a thin layer over the entire heatspreader as I've normally done... ;)

BTW, I did lower my VCORE as some here have suggested and I got a nice reduction in temps. I was hitting 71C at load @ 2.4Ghz with stock VCORE, but lowering it to 2.275V lowered my temps to 63C at load. Still seems to be running stable with that setting as well. Once I get my new SI-128 installed, we'll see how big a difference that will make to my temps.

K i dont have no core 2 duo, but i do have a D940 (recent shift from amd to intel, got it at a good price cpu and board [gigbyte 945p pro] for $200).

The problem i have is i used the original docu hwen it comes to thermal grease, my temp skyrockets when i ply ut2k4 (hits 60Degrees C) and as soon as i have stoped playing it dropes back to 50~49 almost straight away.


The question i have about the thermal grease is this. my older documentation states clean hsf and cpu. then place a blob of grease on hsf and using plastic over your finger (glad wrap) so as not allow any foreign materials on. rub in circles over the hsf where it will come in contact with the cpu. then using a lint free cloth wipe the excess away, practically all of it, thus leaving the shinny surface a little bit dull in appearance. It is dull because the grease has filled up all the scratches and holes on the hsf. the rest is similar to the doco about cpu. I did notice that the new docu states nothing about doing this to the hsf would it be problem if i did that?

Well, the SI-128 did the trick. @2.6Ghz I'm only hitting 51C at load now. Idle is more like 42C and while gaming I'm staying around 45-46C. A heck of a lot better then the stock HSF temps... ;)

i found this thread again to say that. It goes against everything i know about the world when they say to put less paste than covers the surface of the spreader. the core contacts the entire spreader and thus spreads heat to the entire spreader.
