I recently just built this system... Had some windows issues.. Now fully operational but my temparatures are @@@OUT THE ROOF@@@
I have an Antec SUPERLANBOY case which uses 2x120 fans as intake and 1x120 exhaust. The CPU HSF is OEM w/ removed thermal pad and AS5 compound. I am getting a reading of around 50c (CoreTemp) at idle and haven't seen it hit 70c but does usually sit at around mid 60c full load (SP2004) ... AND THiS IS STOCK SPEED!.. Should I just get another HSF?

Is this really bad.. im confused some say the max temp is 60.1C but then it's not running bad.. Also what other programs can I use to measure my TEMPS/VOLATAGES/FANS other than TAT,CoreTemp,SpeedFAN .. (TAT tool gives me a enumerator error)
 
mine's IDLING at 62C. That can't be right. I think we both need new coolers lol.
 
The temperature seems a bit high for stock. Did you enable EIST, it doesn't appear that the CPU is down-clocking when idle, that should reduce your temperatures at idle. Also, see if the MB is automatically controlling the fan, it may be running the fan at low RPMs.

I don't believe the 60.1C max refers to the same temperature as reported Core Temp/TAT as a C2D doesn't even start throttling until it reaches 85C from those utilities.
 
Mine's 70C under load according to MSI CoreCenter. I used a good amount of ac5 maybe too much.
 
I have the BIOS fan control set to Disabled and am pretty sure the EIST is enabled.. I applied about 2-3 bead size drops of AS5 on the back of the heatsink after removing the thermal pad and smoothed it out with a card... If I look at one temp reading (SpeedFAN/LOAD) it will say : Temp1 : 35 / Temp2 : 50 (similar to the ET5 info) but then if I look at it with CoreTemp it will say Core1 : 63 / Core2 : 63...
 
50C at idle is fine. 60C running Orthos is fine. You can do better, but you aren't going to have any issues at those temps. If you really feel the need to lower your temps you should consider getting a better HSF.

Wow guys... I just got on my grind and unmounted the HSF (cleaned hsf and cpu) then applied a new thin (1 little ball) layer of AS5 compound to the CPU and remounted my HSF.. IT'S WORSE!!! I just got a idle temp from 50ish to now 58-60!!! AT STOCK SPEED!!

BARELY RUNNING SP2004 for 5 minutes and I have both cores reading at 71c!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yep, I just read the manual and they say instead a bead, it should be running parralel to the processor position inside the Intel Heat Spreader. And it does drop a few degrees C after a few days of usage.
 
I'm having the same issue, only my temps are higher with my E6400. @stock I'm hitting 55C idling and 65C at load. @ 2.4Ghz I'm getting 61C idle and 71C load. @ 2.6C I saw it hit 75C and shut down to back it off to 2.4Ghz. I ordered a better HSF (Thermalright SI-128) which I hope will drop the temps by 10C or so. When I get it, I'll use the method linked here, as I did a small bead and smoothed it out thinly with a razor, which I now see is wrong. Hopefully I can bring my load temps for the 2.6Ghz down under or around 60C.
 
That should be your goal (under 60 for the cpu, under 50 for the mb); however, I've found lapping the cpu & the HS with 600 wet sandpaper really has helped me tremendously with temps; more than anything else I've tried even water cooling! I highly recommend it if you're having alot of problems with temps;

However, don't start if you don't want to finish and also realize it voids your cpu warranty.

Well, I'm using TAT to meaure my temps, which reports them higher then most other temp monitoring utilities (the Asus probe, Speedfan, etc). I'm thinking I've normally relied on those types of utilities in the past, so the temps reported by TAT don't bother me too badly. I'm just realizing it's going to report higher then what I'm used to seeing. The real trick will be testing stability. If I know I have adequate cooling and the system is completely stable, then the temps reported will only be a reference anyway. Only instability really worries me... ;)
 
wow those temps are high. at idle im at around 42C without fans on max. On max they are around 39C idle. Load is usually around 47-50C.
 
I have noticed the same thing with monitoring utilites, Core Temp reads higher than ASUS Probe, so I just test for stability and use the temps as a reference..

Ran Orthos for 12 hours with no errors and here are my temps :

ASUS Probe : CPU 40C
MB : 40C

Core Temp : Core 1 : 52C
Core 2 : 52C

These temps are on a P5WDH with an E6600 cooled with a Zalman 9500AT, 2 120 MM Case Fans, I may tried to rig a third to get more air flow across the MB

But I do not think that these temps are bad at all, and the system is stable.
 
My friends 6300 gets up to 71C under load. That's on a Asus P5B-VM (micro atx) with a Scythe Ninja cooling it (looks silly on matx, but hey that's what he wanted). The stock cooler was even worse. Up to 76-77C.

That's with a very thin layer of AS5 applied, and verified it was making good contact.

Hasn't caused a problem for him so he said f-it and left it alone. Hasn't died after a month of use... if it does, well, he's got the retail warranty.
 
Ok guys... My new goal is 60c under load. I just purchased a Evercool WC202 watercooling setup for my HDD,CPU,GPU and will be installing it shortly. Last night after re-installing stock HSF with AS5 I left it o/c'd running ORTHOS screen shot posted.
I am wondering why ORTHOS reported it to be running 2.4 when CPU-Z showed the 2.9 I left ET5 settings at.. Is almost 10hours a good enough time to see if it's running fine? I realize my almost 80c temp is WAY to MUCH so I did invest into a water cooling solution hopefully I can take this chip to much more than 3ghZ!

Did you try lowering your voltage? When I had my E6300 @2.5ghz with 1.35 Vcore, I was idling at 60, then I dropped the Vcore all the way down to 1.18 and now I'm idling at 44-45. Runs stable at 1.18volt, and have not had a problem.
 
What's your motherboard, Have you tried running stress test like orthos for hours and hours ?
 
Both CPUs are at the stock speed (1.86ghz) @ 1.28V, and using AS5 as the TIM.

My e6300 (L627A823, Retail) temps are (using Core Temp):

Core #1 / Core #2
Idle: 42C / 37C
Load: 57C / 53C (100% Load with TAT)
This is with the stock HSF @ ~880 rpm in an Antec Solo


My friend's e6300 (L627A847, Retail) temps are:

Core #1 / Core #2
Idle: 57C / 56C
Load: 74C / 73C (100% Load with TAT)
This is with the stock HSF @ ~910 rpm in an Antec Solo

I was initially worreid about the somewhat huge (4~5 degrees) temp difference between individual cores, but I guess it was not so bad after all.
 
Well... After I upgraded to the DQ6 board and the Ever Cool WC202 Water Cooler I lowered my temps from 55-60C IDLE / 70-80 LOAD to 35-40 IDLE / 40-50
 
Temps are too high. I had the stock HSF and overclocked to 3Ghz I was hitting 60 with TAT @ full load.

Don't go over 60 with CoreTemp or TAT. What I did to reduce temps are the following:

-Dropped VCore to 1.2875
-Had fan run full speed all the time (~1700RPM)
-Scraped off stock paste and replaced with AS5.

@ 60 I was uncomfortable with temps and bought a Arctic Freezer 7. Now I can run TAT stress test and never pass 55, never pass 52 w/ Orthos and with F@H, I'm hitting a cool 45 with TAT.

These temps are WAY too high, I'd suggest you all shut your system down immediately to avoid damage. Here are my temps for reference.

Indeed many folks have reported running their rigs O/C'd at 1.2V or lower. I'm at 1.25V (BIOS, asus probe reports 1.17V) at 2.4Ghz now and its running 5C cooler than when I had it at 1.35V.

I had it at 3.2Ghz stock voltage (1.35V) but it was way too hot - 75C. I want it under load at 65C at the max. I'm hoping I can get back to 3Ghz at 1.2V. That'll be plenty for me. My biggest problem seems to be my mobo temps (45C+). I need better case ventillation methinks.
 
people don't apply AS on the entire heatspreader anymore with a credit card or something? is that an outdated method? i mean, i thought the heat spreader is to spread contact thus needing AS on the entire thing...

AS5 will spread over time, so the method they recommend is most likely the best way to apply it.

Guys, try Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool.

Wicked accurate.

From the Source.

It does continuous logging for you so you can see at what temp the CPU is at when it fails to see if you have a thermal problem.

It alerts you when the CPU starts going into automatic thermal throttling.

I've stopped using Core Temp as a result.
