Core vs Memory Overclock

Is there a "rule of thumb" for ocing the core and memory? Should you increase 1 more than the other or both at the same increments? Does incresing 1 make more of a difference that the other?
 
Depends. If you run a higher rez with lots of AA/AF, memory overclocked will help more I think.
 
I always oc them independantly, like I would a cpu and ram. Find the max of each and use that.

It doesn't work like that easily..

At least not with this card, 615/490 will work, and 400/615 will work... but both overclocked it will only do 600/600, and I stress that only :)

Great card I have none-the-less.
 
Sounds like you have found a happy medium for the two together though, I would settle there. Note I used the word settle. :)

Great number too.. 600/600, just like my 6600GT which ran 500/500.. because it was a piece of crap of an overclocker... 550/550 artifacted.
 
so.... You have a gtx capable of 600mhz core??? Is yours 256mb or 512mb version?

Its always worth it to try to up your temps on the mem if you can. My suggestion would be to try and play around with the highest mem speeds you can because they don't require a lot of cooling. In my experience I have only seen memory not overclock well not because of insufficient cooling but because they were bad overclockers.

No, i haven't hit 600 yet, but I'm gonna push it as far as it will go but I'm willing to bet I'll hit the ceiling around 520-540mhz. The mem will prob go higher so I'll see what happens.And mine is the 256MB version.Sorry if there was some confusion
