Core Voltage Keeps Changing

I have CPU-Z open and I'm looking at my core voltage, but it keeps changing... It changes between 1.008, and down to 0.992 (is this too low?), and then sometimes jumps up to 1.157. Is it normal for the voltage to jump around like that? And I'm getting 2 different readings on my core temps, 1 is at 33, the other is at 43. Suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's a E8400 Wolfdale, and it's showing the Core Speed is at 2000.00 mhz (6x 333.3), is that normal? or should I change it in the bios?
 
Disable the speedstep and/or C2E? that gear down the CPU to 6x multipier under idle, hate that shit myself.
That v-core differ might be because the load of cpu alters and drops when the load is heavyer and your board has no Loadline calibration enabled or present at all that prevents that thing.
 
Its not uncommon for cpu-z to report some voltage fluctuation. That's pretty normal. My core voltage has the same .016v dance. Maybe those are the increments cpu-z uses or reads? Speedstep is why when your system is idle it will show the 2Ghz speed. Finally when only using one core only one core will get hot.
 
It's fine, don't mess with it. Speedstep causes no performance loss, and it lets your system run cooler and use less power when you aren't pushing it. The chip will clock back up to full and voltage will increase when it needs to do something, but at idle it will drop the multiplier and voltage to save power and not produce as much heat.

There is /no/ reason to do so, unless you are overclocking and it causes instability. Absolutely none.

If you really want to do it, consult your motherboard's manual. But... don't. You're just raising your power bill.

Why I concur with the lack of need to disable speedstep, its still folly to think speedstep is a great utility bill saver. Depending on whether you leave your PC on 24/7 [in which case turning it off for hours of unused time would save more power/money] and how much you are stressing it, the actual dollar saving would be so small it won't make much difference at the end of the month
 
It depends on how you use it, though. If the machine is either off or doing something intensive, then it would make little difference - but if you spend a lot of time using web browsers, office programs etc. then it would be in a low power state most of the time.
 
I used to think speedstep caused instability. After a good amount of testing though I can honestly say it does not affect the OC at all. At least for me it doesn't. I run my system at 400x8 with speedstep on, which clocks it back to 2.4GHz.

But without performance losses, even if the difference is small, you're giving nothing up by having it enabled.
