I just got my new system together (in sig) and putting it through its paces and overclocking it.
When I put my heatsink on I put a thin layer of AS5 across the entire cpu and placed the heatsink on it. I twisted the heatsink a few times and it became hard to turn. You think theres enough thermal paste on it? Im getting some pretty big differences in the core temps. There is a 7*c difference between the hottest and coldest core.

It seems to overclock fine though. Was prime 95 stable for 5 hours @ 3ghz 1.285v, and currently running 3.15ghz (350x9) @ 1.285vs for 30 minutes no errors in prime

My core temps right now are
54
50
47
47

do you think I should reapply the AS5? or is that normal?

Some guy lapped his IHS and graphed out the temperature decreases. I think he had variability in individual core temps even after lapping (which would imply that contact wasn't an issue and the variability is normal), but I'm not sure of the range.

Are those load temps? The overclock is pretty modest.

Btw, sorry to get off-topic, how do you like the Antec 900? Easy to work with? Does the awful cable management impair the airflow? I'm contemplating getting it for my new build...

yea those are load temps.. I feel the temps are a bit high for the modest overclock.. My ambient temp isn't exacly cold though either (like 78 or so)..

I love the 900.. As far as cable management, its not too bad. I cut a hole and ran some things behind. Heres a pic.. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p227/tissimo91t/Misc/Computer/CompInstalled4.jpg I didn't have my video card yet when I took the pic.

Cool. How many holes did you make? And did you do it for airflow or aesthetics?

I just cut the one hole next to the PSU. It was for aesthetics and airflow. Tuck the cables behind the mobo tray looks better and helps air flow :)

Do these temps seems high? Right now I have it @ 3.2ghz (8x400) 1.3v (1.27v full load in cpu-z) been running prime for 2 hours & 30 minutes and then temps are 57/54/49/49

I assumed they would be lower 50s? anyone have any input?

edit: My temps jump around a little bit.. fluctuating from the 57/54/49/49 it was a few minutes ago down to 55/51/48/48? i assumed it would be steadier?

What are you room temps?

I have mine at 3.0 Ghz and it gets up to 61C but thats with a hot room (57C with cold room and case door open)

3.2 and 57C seems alright to me.

My Xeon has about 4-6*C variation in temps between cores. No biggie.
