The only intel proc's I've ever owned are in my laptops, but I've got a questions about dual cores, HT, and all that.

If I had a dual proc, dual core intel system, how would that look in windows? The way I figure is that every core hyperthreads right? so every core looks like two procs, 2 cores per proc, 4 procs, two procs, 8 procs to windows?

Can Xp run 8 proc systems? Will dual core xeons run HT to look that way?

i dont think there are any systems that would let you run like that. not yet at least.

the only dual core chips that are HT enabled (yet) are the Extreme Edition.

However, XP Pro handles the EEs just fine, recognizing all four logical cores.
I haven't actually seen one running on XP Home, but it should.
MS has taken the stance that they'll count CPUs by Socket not by core or logical CPU or whatever.
XP Pro is a two CPU socket OS, as far as I know there is no limit to how many physical / logical cores it will recognize. You should be able to put two dual core HT enabled Xeons on XP Pro.
But obviously due to the lack of dual core HT enabled Xeons, more than 4 logical cores in two sockets hasn't been tested on XP Pro.
