Using two separate sets 6GB of PC1600 system will clock easily to 3.8 Ghz.
Both sets run fine at 1600
When we install all 12 GB the best is 3.0 Ghz. problems above 1200
Nothing seems to help in the settings.:(

System:
Silverstone 700 PS
Gigabyte x58-UD5 Bios F4 & F5
2x OCZ PC 1600 6GB Gold
Core i7 920
G Skill Titan SSD Drive

its been a known issue since the P4 days or earlier, that the more sticks of ram you have the lower your overclock is going to be. Thats why its best to get high density sticks

4GB x 3 sticks = 12 GB
over
2GB x 6 sticks = 12 GB

Before Tri channel it was 2 sticks > 4 sticks.

Thanks forr the heads up on this Xenozx.
Did not think it would be near that much of a difference!
Cheers

I'm not sure about 4GB sticks just yet but give it time, they'll show up. They have 4GB DDR2 sticks so it shouldn't take too long.

Guess it's back to square 1.
Thanks for all the advice.
Working here.

4GB sticks will show up in Q4 2009 but there might not be supported by some motherboards (even with Bios update).

i dunno, but you could probably buy 2 4x2 kits, and use 3 of the 4 sticks in your board.

You could be the guinee pig, and see how that works out :) Make sure you can return them in a worst case scenerio.

With the mirade of settings in the Bios there must be
a reason for putting all them in there. It is too much of
a difference between 4.0 & 3.0 Speed we think.
Thanks for the advice guy's
Still working here (<:

I have 6 sticks (12GB total) of Corsair Dominator 1600, and I am running my i7 920 @ 3.8 no problems. May be the board or the sticks.

Hi Mike,
That is more like it, thanks a bunch.
Think it is the sticks....regardless of the
settings in the bios we keep hitting a brick
wall at 150 FSB

what mobo and ram are you guys using to hit hit 3.8/4.0 on i7 with 12GB? what cpu speed can you hit and be prime stable?

No problem, just run memtest and see if they hold up. If they do a few hours no problems though it might just be compatablity issues with the board. Good luck either way, I know how frustrating it can be.

Asus P6T deluxe and Corsair Dominator 1600 DDR3

Both sets of 6GB memory test 0 errors running
at 4.0 GB.
Looks like there may be an issue with the Motherboard.
Cheers

Should read 4Ghz

I registered just to get in the discussion on this one it is so frustrating.

I am running the Gigabyte UD4P board with a 920, and it will almost always fail post with all 12GB in it if trying to overclock above 3 GHz. The funny thing is that sometimes, randomly, it will successfully post at up to 3.8 (highest I've tried) and run stable once it does. After struggling with it for a couple weeks I gave up. I pulled half the ram and am easily running it at 3.6 GHz. I'm hoping that a bios fix will allow me to put the rest of my ram in sometime in the future.

Webox-

I'm running 6GB at 1400 right now without issues. And with all 12GB, I could get it to run faster than 1200 once in awhile. Consistency was the real issue.

Did you try out that new bios? Make any difference?

Koden

The new bios is letting me run at 3.8 with all 12GB so far.
Cannot run the memory above 1200 yet.
Can get to 4Ghz but still unstable.
Settings are 19X 200FSB 1200 Mem....stable so far.
