I am looking to do some overclocking on my 930, not too extreme.

I am hoping to hit 3.46Ghz. I have not done much in the way of overclocking since the AMD Athlon Thunderbird days so thought I should just run this by and see if I am missing anything.

Will be taking it up in FSB requency in steps to make sure its stable as I go.

* Set FSB to 166MHz (from 133)
* Adjust the memory mutipler to keep it at the right freqency

I just feel like I am missing a few things.

Also should I expect to need to adjust the vCore voltage for that speed?

Thanks!

*System Specs
Motherboard - EVGA X58 SLI
CPU - Intel Core i7 930 w/ Corsair H50 Cooler
RAM - Corsair XMS 2000MHz

Try it out. Run a suite of stress tests (LinX is my favorite, many people also use P95 and OCCT). If it's not stable, then up the voltage in the smallest steps you can until it is stable.

Most important is to keep your motherboard and CPU temps in check.

You might be fine without a voltage increase. I was able to do 166x21 with my 920 d0 without a voltage boost.

I doubt you will need any voltage increase at all. My D0 will go to 3.8 with no adjustments. Just set it at 166, leave your memory multiplier on "auto", and go from there. Run your favorite torture test for at least 2 hours, overnight is always nice.

Lol I had a Tbird 1GHz too, the pencil trick OC. ;)

You're going for a mild OC so low VCore should be fine. If you want to run your RAM at 2000MHz you may need a few bumps in VTT. On the i7 the memory controller is on the Uncore of the CPU itself rather than on the motherboard, and its voltage is VTT. According to Intel any RAM clocks above 1066MHz are overclocked so you may need 1.3-1.4v VTT for 2000MHz depending on luck, some chips have a very strong IMC that will do it on lower voltage.
