Core i5 2400 low CPU score

I've been running some benchmarks of my new build. And I'm having a weird problem. I'm getting very low scores on the CPU test on Vantage ~16000. For whatever reason the 2nd test stutters horribly and looking at forums across the internet it shouldn't be this way. I noticed earlier that my processor was getting hot (80C) so i reseated the stock CPU cooler. After re-seating the heatsink and looking at my temps of my processor the moment test is done it's hovering around 45C now. I'm dumbfounded. Any help would be appreciated!

Core i5 2400
Gigabyte z68x-ud4-b3
8GB Corsair Dominator

The moment I saw it getting that hot i turned prime95 off. I ran Cinebench and my scores seem normal. Multithreaded ~18,900 and singlethreaded performance ~5,500.

You think it could be a bad copy or install of Vantage?

My Core 2 Duo e6600 @ 3.2Ghz scores are higher CPU score on CPU test 2 (Steps/s) than my Core i5. CPU test 1 (Plans/s) my Core i5 blows my Core 2 Duo out of the water. I'm confused.

The score of 16,000 pts for i5 2400 in 3D Mark Vantage CPU test is normal and any single stock CPU of today is not able to score 44,000 pts by itself. The thing is that those with nVidia graphics cards can choose either to run CPU test on GPU or CPU. If they choose GPU - then CPU tests are performed by graphics card only and CPU score becomes way way higher than it would have been if CPU tests had been done by CPU.

I had an 8800GTS with my Core 2 Duo at the time. So that makes sense. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated! :)

You will NOT do any damage to running a cpu at 80C even if it is for days.

Ok well good, after resetting my stock CPU cooler it maxes out at 68C on wPrime. I've read in a forum that 90C is the danger zone for sandy bridge.

Well I'm sure that depends on the CPU and other factors.

Needless to say - if your CPU runs at 80C constantly then something isn't right, plain and simple.
