Is that a good CPU for gaming ? Better than Core 2 Duo E8600 ,for gaming ? What would you recommend,guys ? Thanks.
 
Currently the E8600 is better since speed is king, but in the future 2 extra cores may be better
 
Aren't there games that already take use of quads? I would rather have the Q5550 and just clock it up a bit.

FarCry 2, Lost Planet, John Woo's Stranglehold, Supreme Commander, and Unreal Tournament III take advantage of more than two cores. That's pretty much it. Get the E8600.
 
Now TF2 too, not that it needs it. Video card still matters the most.
 
Okay,so i'm still undecided. Intel E 8600 - 3,3 Ghz is 260 euro
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 is 259 euro
and Intel I7 920 2,6 Ghz is 298 euro
It's very hard to take the final decision. How is the I7 920 ,compared to E8600 and Q9550 ,on gaming ?Is It's just 40 euro more. Mobo and DDR3 it's another story.

i7 is obviously better and has more of an upgrade path, but it really depends on the total cost including MB and Ram. If this is a completely new build, I'd go i7.
 
9550. If you do any kinda of multi tasking quad core is a godsend...

Do you overclock? If yes get the 9550, if no get the 8600. An overclocked 9550 is more than enough for any two-threaded game, so no reason to buy the e8600.

Can you reliably overclock a Q9550 past 4GHz on anything but a good wc setup?

Yeah I mean I'd rather play it on 360 with 20FPS driving around or 10FPS during fights... (yes, I tried it...)! THAT'S THE TICKET!

Irrelevant. Without SLI 280's or Tri-SLI 280's you won't come close to being CPU bottlenecked on a Q9550 @ 3.8ghz or so even for most titles, and for the types you would (RTS/RPG) those are generally multithreaded nowadays so the quad woudl be quicker overall anyway.

EDIT: Add Warhammer Online to that list too, it uses 3 cores ;). Dual-logging any modern MMORPG uses 4 (2x2) anyway as well.

EDIT2: I moved from a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz to an i7 920 @ 3.7ghz w/ HT, and it is a huge difference for my CPU-bound games such as WAR, Company of Heroes, and World in Conflict... I have tried the same games on 3.8ghz dual-core CPU's and found them to run worse than the Q6600 did. Some games ARE CPU-bound even with "just" 1 overclocked GTX 280 like I have...

Yes you can most of the E0's do it easily, almost as easily as E8400 E0's. Depending on heatsink and how much voltage it takes you should be able to get 500FSB if your board is up to it, if your board doesnt play well with quads then 470FSB should be do able.

For the OP at that price deff get the Q9550
 
I have a q9450 that I am very fond of. Stays nice and cool while easily clocking to 3.6+, and I haven't even tried to push it further. You should be able to push a q9550 to 3.8 on air and 4.0 on water, so if you can run a quad at c2d oc speeds, why not get the quad?

The q9450 I have now handles everything I throw at it easily, although with costs of c2q and i7 getting closer and closer, unless you already have the mobo/ram you should pick up i7
