Core 2 Duo or AMD X2

intel uses less power, runs faster, is more easily overclockable, costs less. right now the intel core2duo is the clear choice, if you can wait another 10 days the prices are supposed to drop significantly and there will be a few more new C2D's to chose from.

You can get a dual core Athlon X2 for $65 right now, whereas the cheapest Core 2 Duo right now is still $163. Not to mention the motherboards are also usually less expensive for AMD processors. Core 2 Duo is faster clock for clock and does use less power.

it's not !!!!!! talk if its the truth that everyone would agree too. unless you can't afford at minimum an e4300 setup, then yes there are solid am2 options. however, after the price cuts nothing will get you more for your dollar than a C2D setup. bottom line is if you need a new setup now, then going with intel is your best bet. if your current setup can hold you out till am2+ barcelonas and agenas come out, then there's nothing wrong with waiting.
Would you be able to provide any links to comparisons between the two as well as MB's.
I've done a lot of research myself and am still unsure of what to upgrade to. I want a kick ass system CPU/MOBO to go with the new cooling system that will be installed as soon as all the new parts arrive.

AMD is currently the best VALUE but Intel is the PERFORMANCE leader... Intel is also dropping their prices in less than two weeks, so the value advantage AMD currently holds will not be so great.
Then there is your third option... With AMD coming out with their new processor soon (Barcelona) which will work in current AM2 boards, you can choose to go the value route now with an AMD system, then upgrade your processor to a Barcelona when it is available and effectively transform your value PC to a real powerhouse. Keep in mind however that no one really knows how Barcelona will perform, while it will undoubtedly be better than anything AMD currently has, there is no way to know if it will be enough do dethrone Intel until some reviewers get their hands on them. We also don't know what their retail costs will be yet.
Regardless of what you decide, you really can't go wrong with any of the options. With prices where they're at currently and where they're going, you'll have yourself a very capable PC at a very reasonable price either way. Now we've just go to wait for ATI/nVidia to get their heads out their asses and sell their video cards at a reasonable price!
