i kno some of you may not agree with me or watever, but i am goin to go ahead and purchase a core 2 duo e6400 to replace my current pentium d processor 2.8 820, my pc is a dell 9150 and i chatted with dell on if it could run the core 2 duo e6400 allendale, they told me my pc cannot support "dual core processors"............it came with a dual core processor, right moving on, wen i put the processor in the socket, it is the same lga 775 socket and my mobo chipset is 945g+ with a 1066mhz bus max, would it destroy my pc,would it just not run, would it heat up and would it work, i am desperate here, to get my pc up to scratch for fsX,what do u guys think, any help or info on this matter would be appreciated ..oh and do u all think that processor 2.13ghz e6400 1066mhz core 2 duo would run FSX very well added with a 7900gt 256 and 2 gigs of ram, if the setup was to work?

thanks

I have seen 945P chipsets that were compatible with the C2D, newegg has them, however your DELL is an entirely different story. I can only think that your motherboard CANNOT support this chip. "MAYBE" and this is a far stretch, but DELL might have a BIOS flash for your board up on there site somewhere that might make your board compatible, but I think it takes more then a bios flash for this situation. I think the board has to support the lower voltages of the C2D, or something like that, something like a voltage regulator issue or some sort. If you bought this chip already, I can only think that your going to have a "NON" bootable PC. I wish you luck bro..........

There are some 945G motherboard that WILL work with the C2D processors, here is a link from newegg of a gigabyte board (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128016) However, If your board wont support the chip (I dont think it will) You might want to replace the motherboard with a chipset that will, BUT Im not sure if DELL is still using PSU's that will not match up with aftermarket motherboards (might burn something) I think you got yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

And there is your answer.... no Conroe support mentioned. Trust me, if it did support it, they'd be bragging about it, to sell more.

Only the very latest 945 chipset motherboards with the revised VRM (voltage) circuitry can support Conroe. Highly unlike Dell would have that. So if you want that processor, plan on buying a motherboard also.

P.S. why is everyone so conceited & think their problem is SO urgent!! This is not that urgent. And something that you pretty much answered for yourself with 2 minutes & the internet!

Its urgent because the CPU is from a dude that claims "it fell of the back of a truck." And he's only got a few minutes to buy it :D
