Is there a way to copy one hard drive to another? Sersiously, my Xbox has a hard drive that can't be locked.. (got the wrong one) and I want to know if I can copy (exact) to another hard drive so I can just swap them and then lock it. That way I can use my on/off switch for the mod so I can play regular xbox... I just use my xbox for emulators like supernes
 
hmm...you could probably use Ghost or a similar program to image the drive, the flash that image onto the other drive. I don't know of a simple method for bit/bit copies, god knows windows can't do it.
 
ha, Yeah I was wondering if ghost would work. Do they have a freeware of that bad boy? If it doesn't work, I will be stuck with a new hard drive...
 
If you've got a drive of the same size or larger, "dd" from Linux or *BSD will do it. Try:
"dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=64k"
from a Knoppix boot cd, with the source drive on primary master and the destination on primary slave. Damnsmalllinux is only 50 MB, and it'll do that fine, so give it a try.

Depending on the modchip, you may have the ability to lock the drive through it. Tried it, I assume?

 
All drive makers offer utilities to clone one drive to another.

I've used both Maxtor and WD utilities to perfectly clone multi-partition boot drives, including scaling partition sizes when moving from smaller-to-larger drives.

Yeah, I tried to lock the hard drive with the mod chip and it said this hard drive is not lockable and then I looked at this list of hard drives not to use and mine was on that list. haha
