copying 1 hd to another? help needed

ok im not to sure whether this should be under operating sys or hardware. :confused:

here goes
im building a complete new machine but i would like to copy my old 40gb hd to my new 200gb hd, the 40gb hd is still in my old machine. dont really wanna partition the new 200gb ,just leave it 200gb. my old sys is win98se , my new sys ill be installing winxp pro

what way can i copy this data quickly and with very little fuss?
im a novice at this so a little extra detail in your explanations would be nice :D

p.s the 40gb hd is just storage there is no os on it
 
Norton Ghost? Depending on your drive it should compe with software for just that cause :D
 
If the 40GB is just storage, hook it up to your system, and initiate a file copy. It shouldn't take more than an hour or so. The data still can only go as fast as your system allows.

You don't want to use ghost if I understand your situation correctly. Ghost is ideal when you are transferring everything to change ONLY the hard drive in a system. It will copy everything over intact, including drivers and OS, which you are not going to want. Just get the new system running and put the old hard drive into it for file transfers. That is the fastest way.
