I was wondering if anyone out there had any experience with using Copper Sulfate in their loops as an anti-algae additive. I have an all-copper loop, so galvanic corrosion is no worry.
 
If you keep the pump running - and don't introduce organic substances into the coolant - then straight distilled water is fine.

That, and I can't seem to fix this dribble of a leak in one of my rads--it's external, so I've just been running my PC with a paper towel taped to the joint. I've already used JB weld 3 times, patching any leaky-looking areas.
 
PT Nuke is copper sulfate, and I have been running that in my loop for 2 years without a problem. A few drops of it is all you need.

As for your leaks, don't screw your barbs in too tight or else the O-rings will not seal correctly. Also, don't use plastic barbs, as they rarely work well.
 
try this maybe? i dont know how long it will last, but since a pc cooling loop is pretty simple i dont think it would have any harmful effects. might wanna ask around first though. seems like it would be good for sealing when you cant find your leak, especially if it seems to justt be a tiny dribble.
 
Nice info on PT Nuke--I discovered a little vial of copper sulfate from a HS bio project on algaecides (hydrx was in the list as well), and wasn't sure if it was pump-safe.

and in terms of the leak, I know where the hole is, but I always seemed to have left a gap for the coolant to sneak out in...Hopefully last night's JB weld job did the trick.
 
You might want to dilute the CuSO4 if it's concentrated. PT Nuke is only 4.1% and you still only need at most 2 drops per liter (~1.14 ppm).
 
PT Nuke has been reformulated, it uses benzalkonium chloride now. I don't know if you can still buy the CuSO4 version.

In any case a very, very small amount of CuSO4 will work fine.
