cooling suggestions for case

for starters, id suggest modding a 120mm fan in the front and the rear ;)

yeah i was thinking about modding the front but i'm not sure if i can fit one in the back
with that modding, do you think the case will provide adequate cooling?
also, any HSF suggestions?

depending on what type of system you are building, i would make sure the psu can handle your new setup first. With only 80mm fans, you might have to sacrifice sound for performance.

havent finalized yet, but most likely an opteron 165 w/ DFI ultra-D
going to attempt overclocking

XP90 HS + 92mm Panaflo fan and 4x80mm Panaflo fans and you are good to go

D

well there is room for seven 80 mm fans
are you suggesting that i put the four panaflos in the front?

as of now im planning to mod the front to fit a 120 mm

also, how will the noise level of that setup be?
i'm not too concerned about noise because as of now i have some old thermaltake volcano heatsink that is probably in the 40-60 dB range

oh 4x80mm in the front ? that case is crazy, I glanced at it and it looked like 2x80 in front and 2x80 in the back, yep mod it, a single 120mm will be much better

well if you go with one 120mm, 3x80mm (side and back) and one 92mm (hsf) you can choose quiet fans and the noise will be tolerable

D

PS: check out svc.com, they have a panaflo sale right now

Just be sure to remove the punched out holes all together. I have a very similar case, but mine has only two front fans (might even be the same, with mine as an earlier version). I am running two 80's up front, two in the back, one in the side, and two in the psu, plus my cpu, vga, nb and it's not very loud because turbulence creates noise, air flowing without much resistance is less noisy than air banging into metal.

Pabst fans are supposed to be really good, but I don't have any. You could get a fan controller in there pretty easy too-lots of bays. I think that the layout of the ATX connectors might make getting a 120 in the back a bit of a hassle, but with the PSU exhausting so near the rear of the case, low cfm 80's may be just fine.

if you cant mod a 120mm in the back, then id suggest modding it to dual 92mms if thats possible

alright, i'll see what i can do
thanks for the input

btw, i have reason to believe that the side fan is an exhaust fan
is there a way to reverse it so it's an intake or should i leave it as exhaust?
i've read around that a side intake is good with a big typhoon

you need to ballance your intake/exhaust, so first decide what fans to get and then add up the cfm and see where you need more

Mine came as exhaust. I changed it to be intake. Simply flip it over. My rule of thumb (since some fans aren't marked  ) is that the air always blows toward the side with the label.

Just be careful not to scratch 'er up and you're fine. I'm serious about cutting out the metal though-it makes a big difference. Just be careful and know that if you're not good at modding there may be negative aesthetics involved. In my case the lower noise and better airflow was well worth it.
