I am wondering if 58 Cel was too hot for a Q6600 at 3Ghz at full load and idle is about 45 cel or so. Here are the specs of the rig:

Abit IX38 QuadGT, Intel Q6600 (G Stepping I think) at 3Ghz (333 FSB), 4GB Geil PC1000, Coolermaster Sphere with Arctic Silver 5.

I have all this in a Antec 1200 case with all of the fans running full speed. Room temp is about 22 cel or so.

If this is too hot what would be a suggested cooler for this configuration? I am not running into any sort of issues yet and would like to keep that way. Thanks
 
Ok, I just looked at the cooler and if I were to get it which direction should the fan blow to? The rear of the case which would be point to a pair of 120mm fans or towards the top of the case which is a 230 mm fan?

I had forgotten to mention that I have a pair of 4850's in the case as well. They exhaust inside the case vice to rear of the case. Should I consider changing out the stock coolers on those as well to have them exhaust to the rear of the case?

i don't know what aftermarket coolers are available for the 4850s, but I think a lot of aftermarket coolers don't even blow out of the case (i'm not 100% sure though). It's also really not worth the money.

I originally had my TRUE pointed to the top but I think having it point the the rear may be slightly better. At least that's the way I see it done most often.

I don't think it would really matter, unless you have some weird case flow, just so long as it is pointed to a close exhaust fan, I doubt you would see much in temps either way though. I have mine pointed to the rear exhaust, even though I have 2 top fans, it just fits better in my case this way.

I'm using an Antec P180 so I have a rear 120mm fan and a top 120mm fan. Logically, heat rises so some say its better to have it oriented in a top-down fashion with a fan blowing up. The main reason why I switched it to blow towards the back was because I put a 120mm in the front of my case which blows toward the heatsink which in turn blows toward the back of the case. This essentially creates a wind tunnel in the upper half of the case. I can't say whether or not there is any difference in temps between the two directions because I switched CPUs.

I still doubt there would be any "real" change in temps, I think its better to just put it which ever way fits the best. Now if you were running passive then you would for sure want to place it upwards. Don't know, maybe I will take the time some day and switch it out and see which one works best.
 
Well I have been looking at the Xigmatek S1283 cooler and I has seen that it has a motherboard plate available as well. Should I consider getting that play to mount the cooler or are the supplied pushpins good enough?

The Coolermaster sphere cooler I have installed now required a motherboard plate so I will have to remove the motherboard regardless at this point.

I find the pushpins to be sufficient, but if you move your PC around a lot or if you aren't really comfortable with using the pins, the bracket would be worth getting.
 
As a follow up to this post, a buddy of mine just gave me a ocz venedetta 2. Looks like the Xigmatek unit but is it worth installing it?

The Vendetta 2 is very similar to the Xigmatek and should perform about equally well. Go for it.
