OK, it seems rather simple.
Keep the MCT-5 flowing, and the M1A's spinning for a minute or two after the computer powers down, to keep the GPU and CPU cool...

Have any of you done any temperature readings of an idling CPU or GPU immediately after power-down? how hot does it get, before it starts to actually cool? does it even get hotter, or does it immediately start to cool down? I guess those fundamental questons should be answered before I start figuring electronics? ;) ....

In theory, at least in my mind, the answer is that it does get hotter, for little while, and then starts to cool (the lingering heat in the chip, from the moment that MCT-5 stops flowing, doesnt disipate very well without the MCT-5 flowing... so it gets hotter) right? :confused:

Just need a little clarification here is all ;) would like to help my parts last a little longer, i guess, if i can spend $30 on some kind of relay to keep them cool post-powerdown.
 
why would it continue to get hotter? it isn't doing any thing else. i have never heard of someone burning a cpu after they shut down their computer. to me it seems kind of pointless to do.
 
Well, lets put it this way: if my pump isn't flowing and I turn on my system, I can usually boot, get on teh net, and be half-way through reading the headlines on [H] before the system shuts down from overheating (not that I mean to, it just happened once or twice).

So, if it takes that long for the electronics to get hot enough to need to shut down WHILE they are running, the little bit of latent heat in the chip isn't going to matter when it's shut down.
 
I really would not worry about post shutdown just like an air cooled system the nmass of the heatsink (waterblock) would dissipate amy heat left.
 
Also the main reason it isn't going to get any hotter is that there is no power going through the cpu after you shutdown. Its just like an electric stove, turn off the burner and it starts to cool off instantly, it doesn't get hotter for a couple mins then start cooling off. No juice = no more heat output :)
 
... the only caveat here is that this 'stove element' is sensitive to heat. However, my logic was flawed, and i beleive you guys are correct ;)
