hi, i want to overclock my q6600, right now i have a Arctic Freezer Por 7, and with OOCT the temp averages at 49 (load). i don't know why this is so high but should i oc this q6600? i know it's not the fact that the thermal paste didn't kick in cus it used to be at 53-57. and my case temperature is at room temperature. cus i got two front intakes and one back and top exhaust fan both pulling/pushing about 93 CFM (it's louder than my Air conditioner).

Well, the Arctic Freezer is a good cooler, but it's not a Tuniq Tower/Ultra 120/etc. Plus these quad cores heat up more than Core 2 Duos and Athlon X2s do. Up to about 3.2ghz you can OC w/ minimal increases in the voltage and northbridge (mch) - say 400 x 8. Just make sure your load temps in prime95 (or occt) stay 65C or below. Those are worst case scenarios honestly. When I'm doing 720p h264 encoding and all 4 cores are running at 100% the temps have never reached prime/occt levels.

What's room temperature? That's a crucial number to know when you are comparing temperatures to others.

49C under load is not bad at all for a stock Quad with an AC7Pro. You could definitely go for some overclocking, although it depends on whether or not you want to. It shouldn't be hard to hit 3-3.2GHz though, possibly with a bit of tweaking.

Hi Monir,
same predicament myself mate... Had an arctic freezer 7 Pro and i think temp' prevented my CPU speed exceeding 3.2Gb. Thinkin' of doing a DIY watercooled kit as i've just purchased a Asus Maximus Extreme Mobo which has a w/c northbridge pre-installed.
Maybe a Swiftech Apogee CPU block as my focus with a 240mm Rad' and 2x 120mm fans. I got some space in my case for these as i got a Coolermaster Cosmos Tower to fit it all
