Cooling issues warrant a case mod?

[H} community.

I am having some issues with temperatures within my current case (I can't tell you what case I have because it's old and I don't remember what it was called when I bought it) and I am wondering what to do.

Suffice it to say I have one intake fan as that's all I can fit. I want to buy another case but don't really have the money at the moment. I was wondering if maybe cutting the case and installing fans would be a good short term solution. (I know that a house fan works, but I don't want to have to run my case open all the time).

The problem I am having is the fact that I haven't had to worry about cooling ever so I don't really know what approach I could take for the best results.

I have already googled it (trying to come up with tutorials but they are all advertisements or they all involve more work/tools/time than I have) I was wondering if it would be possible to get as much input/help as possible from you, the [H] community.

I can get my hands on a dremel and the tips but as for anything more (table saws, scroll saws etc I will have a hard time)

Thanks

I'd start with a top blowhole.
Hot air rises and with a fan pushing outwards, it could do wonders for your case.
Really helped in mine anyhow.

If you absoultely can't afford a new case, then try to do better wire management, and maybe cut more holes to increase the rate of intake/exhaust from your fans.

If you buy a case...there are so many beautiful new designs out. gl

i've seen amazing noname cases go for as little as $30 that have back/front/side intakes/exhausts... infact my main rig is in a $45 case i found that has a handle side exhuast and window... its the perfect lan case... i like it better than my cooler master wavemaster actually:) and it was 1/4 the price to boot

i cut out a top blowhole over the PSU in one of my Antec (cheiftec) cases.

helped reduce the heat alot.

It tends to screw up the flow thru the case a bit, but if the only heat issue you have is your cpu, you'll be amazed what cutting a hole in the side of the case, and adding a fan there (blowing toward your cpu heatsink fan) will do for you. Dropped my cpu temps ~16F in the middle of summer. :)

Besides, if you're gonna become a modder, do you really need a reason to mod?? ;)
