i just built my new rig and i was wondering if any of you guys could tell me the best way to cool the processor without water cooling??? any preferences on cpu fans???? sound is not super important, i just really want to know what the best fan would be for the cpu, i shop a lot at new egg if any of you have times to post links, thanks a lot

If you wish to stay on air cooled set up I would look at Thermalright's stuff. They are the absolute best for air cooling.

I would recomend the
XP20 or the XP90 or if you want copper (and I own one of these) the SLK948U. I ran it on a FX53 for a while. worked real well. I would also recomend a serious fan like a Delta or a tornado. Noisy But you can use a fan controller to wind it down to fairly low levels and crank er up when you wanna have it cool better.

I just installed the TT SilentTower on my Lian Li V1000B system and I must say that I am very impressed at how it keeps my 2.8C P4 @ 3.5Ghz with very little noise. my load temps barely reach the 50C-ish range after running Prime 95 for hours. this is a universal cooler that can fit just about any modern day CPU configuration weither its AMD or an Intel P4 system.
here's a pic of what the cooler looks like in my system. as you can see, the cooler is quite large and I'm sure it wont fit every mobo out there but none the less, I'd recommend this cooler to anyone who wants the absolute best in air cooling w/o having a bunch of noise keeping you awake at night time.

i second thermalright. I have an fx-55 and got the thermalright xp 120, then threw a 120mm fan on top of it, it does a real nice job
My XP-90 keeps my A64 3500+ at about 2-3*C above case temps when idle (usually about 28 case temp and 30 cpu) and under load I average about 41-44*C. Definatly worth it. I'm using a 92mm Panaflo fan with it.
Keep in mind it took a few weeks for the AS5 to set before my temps bottomed out where they are now. At first I was idling in the high 30's and reaching the high40's low 50's under load.
